Hey, Natalie (self-explanatory) and Abby (Luby4eva) here. We've decided to write a fic together. This is Luby from Season 12, and we think you'll all recognize the opening exchange. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy Forget Regret!
“Okay, I don’t know how to say this.”
“What?” Luka’s face creased with concern as he fought to put on his coat.
“Well, it’s just that these past three weeks have been really, I, you know, I, I couldn’t have imagined it--“ Abby couldn’t find the right words to express what she needed to.
“For me, too.”
“Yeah, I hadn’t laughed so much or felt so good in a really, really long time. And I don’t want to do anything to ruin that.”
“Hey, you won’t. I promise.”
“Luka…” she hesitated.
“Yeah?” Luka wanted nothing more than for Abby to spit out whatever it was that she had been trying to say.
“Oh, man…”
“What?”
“I’m pregnant.” Abby looked at Luka, and the shock on his face equaled that which she was fighting so hard to mask.
“Pregnant?” Luka was bewildered. “How did this happen?!”
Abby was glad to be able to interject some humor into the situation. “You’re a doctor. You’re male, I’m female. We had sex, you connect the dots.”
“But we used protection!” Luka was still unable to grasp the concept of Abby being pregnant.
“It’s not 100% effective, you know! Like they always tell you: The only foolproof birth control is abstinence, and neither one of us would be very good at that.” Abby was beginning to feel like Luka was completely pegging this on her. “It’s not totally my fault, you know.”
“Who said it was? We’re two consenting adults who made a mistake. What do we do now?”
“Get off the damn street, firstly. It’s like five below and people are beginning to stare.” Abby knew she should have waited to tell him. But that box had scared her; she had not expected to find a compass inside, although she was glad. She and Luka weren’t even officially “together” yet, were they?
“You’re right, Let’s go back inside.”
“Back inside, Luka?! I just told you something earth-shattering and you want to go back to the party?! What kind of boyfriend are you?!” Abby couldn’t believe that Luka would be so insensitive. “Fine, go back in. I’m going home.” She turned to leave.
“No, Abby, don’t do this!” Luka took a large step in order to catch up with her.
“Do what, Luka? I just told you that I am pregnant, and you act like I told you that I’m dyeing my hair or something! This isn’t something we can just forget about you know, or act like we can ignore it in the hopes that it will disappear. This is serious, and I don’t think either of us is ready, especially to do this together.”
