I just watched a Law and Order DVD with Maura's appearance in 'Aria' in 1991. WOW. Very interesting. Definitley non glam...kinda plain janeish. Heavier eyebrows. She had a slight Texan accent for the role and carried it off well. I was VERY surprised by the timbre/tone of her voice. Almost crickety sounding. Guess smoking HAS affected her voice. Anyone else notice this?

Scotland PA arrived in my letterbox today - it was all very exciting opening it up! I can't believe how fast it was delivered here, less than a week! I watched a tiny bit this afternoon but have decided to save it for tonite maybe, it is too hot to sit and watch TV now and I want to give it my whole attention when I do!

Anyone else notice this? Maybe the sound quality in 1991 not as good as today with all the modern technology of Dolby and digital sound... I did notice that when I saw it... For anyones interest who hasnt seen it, you can see the clips linked from my site under the multimedia...

I LOVE Scotland PA! It was sooooo good, usually I am not into stuff like that but it was actually funny, Maura has great comedic timing and the flim was really well done.
I am listening to the directors comentary now, which is interesting, lots of tidbits about Maura, her improvs and some of the lines Billy used in the movie that were actual lines Maura had used in real life...love her response to the guy who hit on her in Vegas LOL...and it is interesting to hear what scenes she liked the best...
It was so worth getting!

Don't know if this tidbit has been posted but it looks like Diggers will be out on DVD May 1st. According to the post on imbd.com, it's in limited theater release starting April 27th then hits the store shelves 4 days later. Although I can only find it on Amazon. So either it's exclusive through them or maybe it's not a definite release yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the date is correct.

I definately wrote my French exam essay on Scotland, PA. It was pretty cool. And, yeah, I went to the shoot thing to be an extra...I'll recount the tale tomorrow, I'm totally exhausted.

I'd like to see the film before I buy it. Though, fair enough I bought Welcome To Mooseport before I'd seen it but that was because I loved Ray Romano.
I may buy it....what is the film actually about? Is Maura in it a lot do you think?

Not very big part as the Hotel manager... I would say a cameo... Mainly the movie focuses on Al Pacino, Hilary Swank and Robin Williams

Yeah...honestly, I hated the movie. Painfully slow, and I most definately fell asleep. Maura was underused, IMHO. On the subject of the shoot I went to, Maura was sadly not there. However, Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson, and Andre 3000 were, as well as various other people. I basically sat in the stands of a basketball court set (built for the movie) and cheered on cue. SIX HOURS OF FLIPPING SITTING AND CHEERING MAKES MAGGIE A BORED GIRL. So I tried to sneak into the cast section and got myself denied. And then I just wandered around awhile and found some candy and ate it. There were a bunch of props (pom-poms, megaphones, etc.) for the "fans" and my friend and I totally tried to make off with a couple of them, and I almost cried when they took them away as we left. Wanted to scream. SIX HOURS AND NO MAURA??? It was sort of fun, but it would have gone a lot faster if Will Ferrell didn't SUCK so much at basketball. Can't sink a shot to save his life. Woody and Andre, however, got game. That was legitimate cheering.

I totally did not 'get' Insomnia. I flet tlike there ahd to be some parts with Maura missing form the story. In the version I saw one minute she was talkig to Pacino and the next sleeping with him on top of the covers of his bed. They woke up together and were supposed to have shared something that totally did NOT come across on screen. Robin Williams was good though....as usual Freaky. And Maggie...since Maura AND You are in the flm, I will definitley be watching when it comes out.

About the "Insomnia" comments, that's right, she did it just to the experience to work with Al Pacino (and Christoper Nolan, the director) She said that on The View, may 2002. She also said that she had a "run-in" with him at a fancy restaurant in LA. hahaha, here it is: "I was at the valet and my friend’s walking toward me going [she gestures with her hands and mouths] “Al Pacino!” “Al Pacino!” And I’m like, “what?!” And she turns to me and goes, “Al Pacino!” And I was so excited ‘cause I love him so much; I ran up to him and just started [she demonstrates] wildly waving saying, “Hi Al” and [she shrugs] he waved back and got in the car. " but he doesn't seems to ignore her that much... look at this pictures: maura-t.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=121&pos=44maura-t.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=121&pos=64maura-t.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=121&pos=76 maura-t.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=121&pos=75(between robie willians and al pacino...maura rocks!!!) And yes, she seems a little shame on the first pictures, but not him... About the suppouse deleted scenes that someone talked about: "The DVD includes a short documentary about insomniacs. Also included is an interesting deleted scene between Maura Tierney, who plays the innkeeper, and Al Pacino. The dialogue and cinematography of the scene is very intimate, though according to Nolan, the pacing of the scene slowed down the film too much, which was why it was omitted. " And here a comment given by the director about her: "Joanna is a fantastic actress, I loved her in Blade Runner and various other things, but Maura is a wonderful listener, and had a quality of being able to just communicate to the audience why this character chooses to talk to her. People feel like they would talk to Maura in that situation, which is crucial in making that leap to that part of the film. Maura just really had a special quality that was absolutely right for the role. " Aperrently some poor woman wanted her role, bot didn't get it and didn't really like that...hahahaha, poor girl... so, this is it... And I'm really sorry about my pretty poor english and the many mistakes that I'm sure I made (in fact, I think I am doing this right now hahaha) you know, I am still learning
