IMO Sam has no right to me mad at Abby. If it wasn't for Sam and her loser ex Steve, Abby wouldn't have had to have Joe prematurely, a hysterectomy and put her and Luka through all that agony. Anyway she is no saint, she shot Steve, i know with reason but still.... That doesn't have anything to do with Abby being an alcoholic though. And it wasn't Sams fault either that he shot up the hospital. She didn't tell him to kidnap her and Alex and almost kill one or more of her friends. He did that himself.

and IMO this has nothing to do with her past relationship Luka, I reaaly think she's over it now It has something to do in a sense that she wants Luka to be happy... I'm absolutely not saying (and I'm quite sure Zelda meant the same) that Sam wants to be with Luka... but simply that she cares for him the same way Luka cares for her (remember when he supported her about sending Alex to his new school for distrubed child)... Isn't it great that we can go on and on about Sam, who never had so many people interested in her all along the last three seasons? I want to modulate my comments.Thank you, Marion, you always understand what I awkwardly try to say! I never meant for a minute that SAM was interested in having another try with LUKA... NOT AT ALL. I think that I used a wrong word : JEALOUS which was not appropriate to the situation. I just wanted to say that she had always cared for LUKA, was really moved whenever he tried to ask her if she needed help with ALEX. Even after the break up, LUKA had always been here for SAM, offering money, wanting to be still part of ALEX's life, ( playing football), or comforting her when she thought she was a crappy Mom. I think that SAM really thinks that ABBY was really lucky to have such a man deeply in love with her, THAT she hated THE IDEA OF ABBY DESTROYING LUKA's HAPPINESS, after all he had gone through. When ABBY confesses that she has been a bad friend and is ashamed of her behaviour , nobody condemns her, even if she has hurt her coworkers' feelings. They all react with words of comfort and moral support. CHUNY and HALEH hug her, without a word... And BAM, SAM 's sarcasm comes out of the blue.SAM and ABBY have never been friends, NEVER. SAM has always been nice with her, and she helped her a lot when Joe was hurt, but they were just coworkers. But HERE, there is this unspoken hostility, very well expressed by Sam's killer look, more than the words themselves. And I can only say again that SAM, deep in her heart thinks that ABBY doesn't DESERVE LUKA and wants, needs to show it, in front of the others. Not very classy, but it's from the bottom of her heart. Voilà!And I don't want to say anything nasty about SAM's past...Actually, I think she was brave and fiercely independent, even though it didn't bring her any personal happiness. But she saved LUKA in Twenty one Guns and this is a link between them which has not been developped at all by TPTB, but which points out that they have lived strong, and unforgettable moments together. She saved his life for God's sake! I don't think I'll ever write a single word about SAM again in an episode discussion, especially if she becomes an item with Dr-Walking-bloody- Disaster, GATES! On the bright side, it will be the shortest love story in the ER within 14 years! Just one episode, mamma mia!

I know you're right Marion and Zelda, and that of course every one knows that she's not in love with Lika anymore, but I think she just overeacted after Abby's confession.
As you said Zelda, Abby and Sam have never been friends, and I don't think thy will be one day. Even if I think it was great that they talk of their children in Gravity, and Sam's support at this time was nice.
But in Coming home, Sam was very pissed of after Abby's attitude, contrary to Neela, who tried to help her. So, it seems obvious that they are not friends...
I didn't like Sam's reaction in the way that it seem to affect Abby very much, and I feel sad for her

I don't think Abby's confession had anything to do with Sam's past with Luka. I imagine that when Sam heard those words from Abby she was having a fleeting glimpse of all the times she may have questioned Abby's procedures and wondered if she was drunk then. Sam's professionalism would have been on the line as well. She doesn't take kindly to anyone trying to pull the wool over her eyes. Remember her chastising Hope for lying to her about Kerry ordering the meds for the dad with high blood pressure? Not having a friendship relationship with Abby made her the best character to question her. Haleh and Chuny have been friends with Abby since she was a nurse and they were helping each other out on the floor. Notice Morris and Frank walked out without saying anything at all. She may have more than Sam's fall out to deal with. Which is another reason why I would like her to stay in Croatia. I can't deal with people being pissy to Abby any more. Sigh.

I'm being as objective as I can when I say this. People are right not to give her their immediate support. For Morris and Frank, as for the rest of the gang this was NEWS! Even if they like her, consider her their friend (I think Morris does and Frank had a soft spot for her, IMO) it's normal for them to take a little time to digest this. I would feel betrayed as well if one of my friends had a secret this big.
I'm not saying that they'll continue to be pissy (not that I got that feeling from anyone else) but it was a natural reaction. Maybe they felt they were lied, maybe they felt they didn't know her at all and that she's not who they thought she is. The girls, however, showed their support. Except for Sam, of course, who humiliated her instead. Yes, they were never friends and their only connection is Luka and County as a workplace. Again, Sam stopped seeing her as Abby the co-worker and started seeing an addict, no different from the girl she treated before.
I just would like to add that I noticed some differences between Abby's mistakes and Luka's (and I'm NOT trying nor wanting to start a debate). In S9, he was condemned for everything, nobody tried to look for the cause of his actions and no-one gave him any support. From Abby and hers "he's European, that's his baseline" to the petition the nurses signed. I'm not saying that it's the same thing, but both Abby's actions this season and Luka's then CAN be explained and understood. The big thing is, here, Abby was supported, people were trying to help her ( how many times did Pratt tell her "you're not alone" and offered his help?) and understood her. IMO, if everyone was to throw a big "yey, Abby's back and she's sober" party, it wouldn't have been real.
People are different and they have different reactions. While some showed empathy some saw only her flaws. And some need time to cope with the new found "feature" of hers.I think it was done very realistic and in-character and how the Sam plotline will be played it remains to be seen. I'm not saying she was right - I thought she might be when I first saw the episode - and her question came as a result of her day at work (the drunk girl who wanted no help), these past few months AND their history.

He should have been more comprehensive I think... I quite understand Abby when she got so many difficulties to talk about her problem. it's not so easy to confess even to your best friends. I know that personnally I prefer when my friends guess by themselves when I'm in trouble, even if it's not the best solution I hope she won't stay in Croatia forever, but be back at County, first to finish her residency, then to show to everyone that she's a good doctor, a good coworker and a good friend. and then she can go wherever she want's because county really doesn't deserve her (just kidding, sorry I'm just a huge Abby fan)

Was anyone else disappointed they didn't celebrate Abby's birthday?

No one has ever celebrated Abby's birthday. And she was just back froma supposed 'vacation' to Croatia for the senior Kovac's funeral. Celebrating a birthday wasn't exactly on their minds I imagine.

January 10. She was turning 40 if the show was going to follow continuity.

Well, okay, I didn't entirely mean THEY as in the ER, I meant they, as in.. the writers-ish. Abby could have celebrated her birthday by herself, or something, like season 8. I dunno, it was just a thought.

Thank you, Andreea !
So nice to hear that some people don't think I'm systematically trying to say negative things when all I'm doing is to point out that the writing is badly done, sometimes without any continuity with the past lives of the characters.Merci beaucoup!
