So here's a new story!! Its occ/au, but I decided to do it anyway!!Chapter 1 "Of course my beautiful fiance Abigail is here with me tonight, making this victory even sweeter." Richard Lockhart smiled cockily as he gestured toward the well-dressed woman who sat nearby. "Honey, thank you for all your love and support. I couldn't have done this without you." Abby Wyczenski’s face was beginning to hurt from keeping her smile plastered in place. Shifting uncomfortably in her seat, she winced from the soreness of her bruised ribs, as her fiance, the new Governor of Washington, continued on in his pious acceptance speech. "At least tonight he'll be in a good mood," she thought with a sigh, as she continued to smile and gaze at Richard with what she hoped would read as a look of admiration. The rest of the evening passed in a blur of even more fake smiles and countless congratulatory handshakes. Abby allowed Richard to lead her around the room, showing her off like one of those irritatingly overly groomed show dogs, she thought. Richard was at his dazzling best. This was the man that she had fallen in love with over a year ago. This was a far cry from the man that she knew away from all the glitz and bull of the political world. Waving to the last of their well-wishers, Richard opened the limo door for Abby and smiled at her as she slid into the car. She had tried to be perfect for him tonight. She had to be. She knew how important this night was to him. Abby felt the familiar uneasiness settle over her body as Richard slid into the seat next to her and draped his arm around her. "Congratulations, honey," she quickly gushed, hoping to keep his ego buzz strong and solidify his good mood. "I am so proud of you." Leaning over, she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thank you, sweetheart," he answered, moving his arm further down her body. "You look absolutely beautiful tonight." Feeling relief that tonight was going to be a safe night, Abby relaxed a little as the long, black limo carried them toward their home. Arriving at their large estate, they thanked their driver as they exited, Richard making a grand gesture of tipping him generously while shaking his hand. Abby couldn't help but smile and roll her eyes as she watched their encounter. He was always the politician. Always working the voters. Entering through the garage of their spacious home, Abby quickly ascended the winding staircase that led to their master bedroom. Even after having lived there for almost 4 months, she still sometimes had a hard time believing that this was truly her home. Having grown up in a trailer park and working as a lingerie model to pay her way through nursing school, she had fought for every penny she had ever earned.

Just one chapter up and I love it already. Looks like it could be an angst story ... my favourite kind I love how you describe everything so well. I can just see it all happening as if it was on T.V. Just one (stupid?) question: what does occ/au mean ?

Thanks guys!! Chapter 2 She had met Richard Lockhart when he showed up as one of her patients during his time at County Hospital for an emergency appendectomy. She was his nurse and found him as handsome as he was charming. Not realizing he was a state representative running for Governor, she found it hard not to be impressed by his extensive affluence and powerful presence. For his part, Richard had found Abigail Wyczenski to be just what he had been looking for in a partner. Sure, she was beautiful, but what drew him to her was that she was a success story. Someone who had risen above the hand that life had dealt her and who would only help his case as he tried to present himself as the working man's political saviour. Richard had put on his best show in his attempt to woo the beautiful brunette. Their courtship had been a whirlwind of romantic weekend getaways, lavish gifts, and over-the-top gestures. Abby would always insist that she didn't need these things for happiness, that she was just a small town girl at heart. Richard, however, thrived on taking her breath away with his latest creative show of love. Their engagement had been one such event. Being a state representative in the middle of a high profile election for governor did, after all, have it's perks. He had closed down the entire downtown park area, and filled it with lights, tents, and a symphony orchestra. T he night was capped off with fireworks as the handsome politician dropped down on one knee and asked her to be the future First Lady. The Jackie to his JFK. The woman who would stand by his side and make him look better just by flashing her famous smile. How could Abby say no? That had been four months ago, right before she had moved into their larger-than-life mansion. She had told him she didn't want to move in together until after their wedding, but he had insisted. Richard, after all, could be extremely persuasive when he wanted to be. He had been putting pressure on her to quit her nursing job at the hospital, explaining to her that it wasn't right for her to have to work when she was going to be more than taken care financially. She had refused, however, telling him that she loved her job and wanted to keep it. That had been the first time she saw the other side of Richard. She had to put a lot more time into getting ready in the mornings for two weeks after that. She quickly discovered just which brands of make-up did the best job of covering black eyes.

Chapter 3 Abby gingerly removed her gown and hung it carefully in her large closet, sighing as she saw the bruises that still covered parts of her toned abdomen. Jumping a little as she felt his presence suddenly behind her, she did her best to appear relaxed as she smiled and turned toward him. "How would you like to congratulate the new Governor properly?" Richard's eyes shone hungrily as he slid his hand up and down her arm. "Oh, sure, sweetie, it's just that I'm still in a little bit of pain from the um-" "From when you accidentally fell down the stairs?" Richard's tone left no room for argument. He was making sure she remembered what had really happened that night. "Yes, sweetheart. I'm sorry I'm so clumsy. Maybe I can make it up to you another way, though," Abby put on her best seductive smile as she slowly and painfully dropped to her knees in front of him and began to unzip the pants of his tux. "No!" Richard pulled her back up by her hair, causing her to wince in pain as fear began to quicken her pulse. "That's not what I want, Abigail." Pulling her forcefully to him, he grinned sadistically when she cried, her sore body jolting from the pain. "Richard," her voice was broken and panicked as he dragged her toward the bed. "Please, Richard, I hurt so much, and-" "Quiet!" he barked, his eyes ablaze as he pushed her onto the bed, "You're ruining this romantic moment!" Whimpering, she knew it was useless to fight him. Physically, the 6 foot Richard was a powerful force, and even if her body wasn't completely bruised and sore, there would still be no way for her to push him off. So instead, she just laid there, tears streaming down her cheeks as he forced himself on her, entering her roughly, slapping her when she dared shriek in pain. When it was over, he simply rolled over and fell into a deep sleep. Abby was shaking as she made her way slowly to the bathroom to survey the damage. She winced as she saw a new bruise forming on her chest, and a nasty cut on her cheek where she had been slapped. Standing there in that moment, naked and battered, she was ashamed of herself. She hated the person she had become. Why hadn't she left after the first time, she'll never know. Maybe it was because Richard had acted so casually, as if nothing had happened, that she began to believe him.

Thanks guys!! Chapter 4 Whatever the case. In that moment, she decided it was enough. Pausing long enough only to drop her engagement ring by the bathroom sink. Abby quickly shrugged into some undergarments, her cotton pyjama pants, and a tank top, being ever-so-careful not to make even the slightest noise. Her heart raced as she descended the stairs ever so quietly, feeling panicky as she kept glancing over her shoulder for signs of Richard. Miraculously, they had not set the house alarm system that night, so she exited the front door silently and now took off in a run toward her car. Throwing open the door, she quickly got in and locked all doors, fearing what Richard would do if he found her trying to leave. Backing quickly out of the driveway, Abby finally began to let her tears fall. Jumping on the highway, she found her car taking her in a familiar direction. Though only 30 minutes away, it sometimes seemed like the world she grew up in and the world she had recently found were continents apart. How did it come to this? Abby thought as her tears threatened to impair her vision just from their sheer abundance. Growing up with a bad childhood, Abby had always sworn that she would not become the woman who gets beaten. She had watched her mom go through boyfriend after boyfriend, many of them who would raise their hand to the both of them. Sighing, she pulled her car off the highway and followed the roads she knew so well. Driving past all the familiar landmarks of her old town, it almost felt like she was going backwards in time, back to a time in her past. There was the drive-in movie theatre where she had spent countless nights getting hot and heavy with a certain high school boy. The diner where she had worked her first job as a waitress when she was only 14, saving her precious pennies up to buy her first car. Passing by a motel that she had lived in for so long, she sighed again, feeling defeated. When she finally pulled into his apartment complex, she was visibly shaking. She had finally gotten over her shock enough to realize what acute pain her body was in. She quickly made her way to his door, still paranoid that Richard would somehow jump out of no where and attack her. Knocking loud enough that she hoped he would wake from his sleep, she waited, her hands fidgeting nervously with her keys as she prayed that he would be home and not at Rebecca's house. When the door opened, she met his eyes, which immediately widened in shock. "Luka," she said barely above a whisper, "Help me."
