Sitting in a corner booth at the local diner several minutes later, Abby looked around the small eatery, shaking her head with a small smile on her face.
"What?" Luka asked, noticing her reflective expression.
"Nothing, it's just, gosh, this place has so many memories for me. I remember working here when I was in high school and -"
"And I," Luka cut in, "Remember spending all my money eating here just so I could have the hot waitress serve me." He gave her a half smirk.
Abby laughed, "No, you were just paranoid about all the men who used to flirt with me, so you came to keep an eye on me."
Luka frowned, "Yeah, maybe that's true, but you've got to admit, some of those old guys were pretty creepy!"
This caused Abby to laugh even harder, a sound that brought a smile to Luka's face. "Ohmigosh! Remember that one guy who asked me to go on a road trip with him!"
"Hell yeah I remember that guy," Luka grinned smugly, "I beat the hell out of him in the parking lot right after that!"
They both irrupted in laughter and kept their trip down memory lane going throughout their meal.
Mid-way through dessert, they were interrupted by the sound of an incredulous, "Abby?"
Abby and Luka both turned in the direction of the voice to see none other than Logan Murphy.
"Logan!" Abby squealed as she jumped up and gave him a hug. "How are you? I haven't seen you in months!"
"Yeah, I know, " Logan grinned, "I haven't seen you since your engagement party. Speaking of which, congratulations on being the fiance' of the new Governor!"
Abby's face fell and Luka began racking his brain for things to say.
"Oh, well, actually," Abby began with a fake smile plastered on her face, "Richard and I aren't engaged anymore."
"You're not?" Logan's eyes went wide. "What happened?"
Abby looked at the floor. "Oh, well, we just decided it was best to break it off. These things happen, you know?"
Logan noticed how uncomfortable she looked, as well as the stern glances he was getting from Luka, so he decided to drop the matter. "Oh, well, that's good then, I guess. Maybe now we'll see you more. The kids miss their Aunt Abby!"
Abby smiled in relief. "I miss them too! How are they?"
"Good, good. Logan Jr. is in school, and the twins are in pre-school, and Lucy's home with baby Susie right now. I just came to get them some lunch." Logan grinned as he spoke proudly of his children.
"Aw, that's great, Logan. I promise to come by and see all of them soon." Abby smiled genuinely at her friend.
"Okay, well, I better run. If the food gets cold, Lucy will kill me!"
Smiling his goofy grin, he gave Abby another hug. "Bye, Luka!" He called over his shoulder before leaving.
Sitting back down at the booth, Abby smirked at Luka.
"What?" Luka asked with a grin.
"You never did like Logan, did you?" Abby smiled at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Logan? Whatever. He's such a baby. I can't believe that guy managed to figure out how to have kids. Let alone four kids!"
The look of disgust on Luka's face caused Abby to giggle. "Oh, please, you were just jealous that he and I were always such good friends. Come on, Luka, admit it."
