Hello! Long time lurker here and Luby fan from Season 7 to today. I've been keeping up with this thread, but I don't remember anyone posting this article or how accurate it is. My apologies if it has already been posted. celebrities.suite101.com/article.cfm/interview__goran_visnjic_of_erInterview: Goran Visnjic of ER Croatian actor to play Dr. Luka Kovac for just a few more months © Amber Nasrulla Nov 24, 2006 After eight seasons as Dr. Luka Kovac on NBC's juggernaut medical drama, the Croatian actor is ready to leave After eight seasons as the gorgeous Dr. Luka Kovac, Croatian actor Goran Visnjic is gearing up to leave ER. We talked to Visnjic recently at a downtown L.A. hotel and asked him to reflect on the groundbreaking show. Question: Earlier this year, there were reports that ER would be shelved but now it’s back with massive ratings. So what's the mood on the set? Goran Visnjic: We're kind of laughing about it, “Oh, my God. We’ve been rediscovered.” It’s a little bit weird. We’ve been always trying to be fresh and trying to do as best as we could. It’s a completely different show. There is no more original cast members. It’s my last season this year. I’m going to go. Show’s going to stay. Question: This is definitely your last season? That’s not going to change? G.V.: It’s really time to move on. Playing the same character for eight years, it’s kind of like no matter how interesting their writing and no matter how good stuff I’ve been getting every year, it’s a little bit like time restricting. You can't do anything else. Basically 2½ months you have off time to do something. And then it’s really difficult to get some other job exactly in that 2½ month slot. I come back next year for couple of episodes, maybe for more story line exit. Question: Are you considering doing back to Croatia? G.V: I kind of never left, to be honest with you, in my head. Every time I have time off, I’ve been there. I’ve just been there 2½ months, all summer basically. So I still have Croatian passport. I kind of really considered both being home, you know, like States and Croatia. Question: Goran, how do you feel about Grey's Anatomy? G.V.: It's obviously good show. We shouldn’t feel anything bad about it because we've been on the air for 13 years. And we're still pulling like 15, 16 million people. Question: What’s in store for Abby (Maura Tierney) and Luka this year? G.V.: We don’t know is Abby going to survive? Is baby going to survive? Season finale! We have a rule here. You can be happy for maybe three episodes, tops. They’re going to do something then after that. Plane’s going to fall on you! Helicopter is going to cut your arm! Question: So how is Luka going to leave? G.V: I don’t know. It’s so far away. We were planning maybe one episode in Croatia. I don’t know when. So we don’t even discuss about it.

Sweety, that's a cut and glue from a bunch of Goran's interviews, and not even that recent anymore. It's been going around. But there is some speculation that if Goran leaves he won't leave alone. According to Globo's website, Maura might be leaving with Goran. But it's just speculation as well. They talk about Shane leaving and in the last bit they talk about some Abby Lukas spoilers (I don't know if you're spoiled so I won't mention it) and say that it could be an excuse for both of them to leave. The News is entilted "ER a season of many goodbeys"

This just in from "Ask Ausiello" at TVGuide.com
Question: Any ER scoop? I will love you forever.— Ruby Ausiello: Hope you have a defibrillator laying around, because multiple sources confirm that Goran Visnjic has decided not to renew his contract, and will most likely leave the show at the end of the season. I say "most likely" because I'm told Warner Bros. is attempting to broker a Noah Wyle-type deal with Visnjic that would bring Dr. Kovac back for five or six episodes next season — likely the show's last. That would give producers enough time to script an appropriate ending to the Kovac/Abby love story, since I'm fairly certain Maura Tierney is sticking around.
sorry if this is considered a spoiler. im not sure, but i dont think it is. ill delete it if anyone feels that it is.

Well...perhaps he'll be charmed into staying. Really, if I were him (well, there's a lot I'd do if I were him) and I was considering leaving, all it would take is my stunning costar saying "Hey, you should stick around" and I'd agree. I swear, she has powers or something in those looks of hers, I'm sure she can just sort of stare at him and compel him to stay. And I'm not saying it's romantic or sexual, just that UNCANNY sort of gaze she has. Like magic powers or something. Am I rambling? I am. I was just looking at some Maura pics and thinking anyone, man or woman, gay or straight, married, single, or with twelve wives and ninety eight children would be a fool to turn down an offer to work with her. Come on, Goran, get a grip. You've just worked alongside an Academy Award winning actor (Forrest Whittaker!), starred with THE most talented beauty in Hollywierd (MAURAAAAH) and you're on a show that made George Clooney the sexiest man alive. Can you REALLY turn that down? I mean, you could be the sexiest man alive 2007! Seriously, I'd vote for him, but only if he stays. Otherwise it's so over between us, Goran. Maura wants me to commit, after all, and stop messing with her costars.
WOW I've had a lot of caffeine this evening.

I have found Ausiello to be right in almost everything he writes. He's not one to write real bad rumors. When I've seen him be wrong, its because that's what an actor or producer has told him. He got the date for the Reela kiss wrong, but that could have been a change in scheduling or other things.
He just added this new video thing and brings up the ER news again. However, he says that there is no news on Maura Tierney who's contract is up this season...but hasn't Maura said she's contracted through 14?
I found this to be more honest than anything else that's been published, so that's why I decided to post it.

So he said leaning towards not signing to at least there is room for error, I hope that it is still a big nasty rumor. And as a totally side note, I have been saying Ausiello's name totally wrong all this time - it is nice to know how it is pronounced

I seriously think he is going to leave at the end of this season as a series regular and will reappear reoccuringly for Abby for season 14 and then ER will finish(like he said). His contract expires at the end of this season and I'm glad and grateful that he honored it. Maura Tierney's does not so, she will stay for a season - give or take. He has loads of plans to do after ER and based on a YouTube interview, he made is abundantly clear that he is going but cannot say it because of final arrangements for season 14 that concern Abby and Luka as a couple. The writers have to iron them off... It's clear to me that he's going but who know? Changes might take place but I won't hold my breath for them.
He needs to love on and like he said, 8 years is the time to seriously make steps to. Goran cannot pass up an opportunity to be a movie star if he can, and he CAN! Good luck to him and I'm sure he will succeed, he's very talented.
He might even take time off to start a family with his wife and really focus on bringing them up.
