Here's the next installment. Let me know what you think and thank you all for the great replies Around 1:00 pm a very pissed Abby slammed a chart on the desk yelled at Frank that she was on break and stormed into the lounge. She had been stuck with one trauma after another and hadn’t been able to breathe since she left Julie on the lounge to start her shift. She was surprised at the sight before her when she entered the lounge. Luka had Julie and Jasna on his lap while Marko was sitting on the chair next to them and he was reading the kids a story from one of Julie’s books.
- Hey. – He lifted up his head when he noticed she was standing there, watching them.
- Erm.... hi – She managed to stutter after a few seconds.
- Mommy, my tummy is making funny noises, can we go eat now? – Asked Julie climbing down from his lap.
- Sure, babe. Go grab your coat. – She shifted her gaze back to the table. – Luka, Marko, Jasna; ready to go?
- Yeah, we’ll just get our coats. – Answered Marko hopping down from the chair.
At a nearby diner
- So, Jules, the usual for you?
- Yep, cheeseburger and fries, no green stuff. – She made a face that caused everyone at the table to laugh.
- Okay, I’ll have the Caesar Salad and a diet Coke. – Abby decided. – What about you guys?
- I’ll have the same as Julie. – Announced Jasna.
- Me too. – As usual, Marko copied his older sister.
- Then I’ll have the bacon cheeseburger and a Coke.
After the orders came and everyone started eating, Abby realized she didn’t know anything about them apart from their names.
- So how long have you guys been in Chicago? – She asked.
- About a month.
- I see. Do you like it here?
- Yes, it seems like a great city to live in, really cold though.
- It is a great city and you’ll get used to the cold soon.
- How are you guys enjoying the city? Have you been to Millennium Park already? – Abby asked the kids.
- I like it here, it’s not like Croatia but it’s nice. – Answered Jasna with her very polite and sweet voice.
- What’s Millennium Park? – Marko asked, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
- It’s the best park ever!! Mommy, can we take them there tomorrow? Please, please. – Julie asked batting her eyelashes at Abby pleadingly.
- I’m sorry, sweetie. Tomorrow you have school. But we can take them there next Saturday. What do you guys say? – She asked them.
- I’d love to, answered Jasna enthusiastically.
- Me too!! Me too. – Replied Marko clapping his hands.
- What about you Luka? Would you like us to give you a tour of the park? – Abby asked, surprised at how much she hoped he’d say yes.
- You’re inviting me, too?
- Of course we are. Right kids?
- Yeah – the three of them said together.
- Okay then. – Luka smiled at them.
After lunch they went back to the ER chatting about everything and nothing and Luka was really glad that in his first day the kids had made a friend and, hopefully, he had too.
