Okay, since I have had this story idea in my mind for a while, and I'm on spring break, I figured that I can dedicate my time to two fics. I am going to try to end my other fic in this next week or so, and give this one a try.
Hope you enjoy this and please let me know what you think and if i should continue with it.
The Parent Trap
Background: Abby got pregnant the first time they were dating. She and Luka ended up having twin girls, Taylor and Gabrielle. Their relationship unfortunately did not work out, and split up when the girls were only a few months old. They agreed that Abby would take Taylor and Luka would take Gabrielle.
Luka was unable to focus with Abby working at the same hospital because he was still, in fact in love with her. He did not think that she would ever love him again, so he decided to move back to Croatia again. That way, it would be easier for the girls when they grew up.
Abby is still having a hard time without Luka. She misses him a lot and wants him back, but is too scared to admit it to herself. She stays in Chicago and works at County General Hospital.
The two girls have just had their 2nd birthday and have just begun talking. Both Luka and Abby are concerned about what is going to happen when they are old enough to realize that they only have one parent. Will they find the other? Will they be reunited?
Chapter 1: Separation
Chicago 8:00 AM
“Tay, come on baby, it’s time to get up,” Abby said as she walked into her daughter’s room.
“Mama?” A sleepy Taylor says as she reaches out her arms for Abby to pick her up.
“Come on sweetie, let’s get you ready for daycare. Mommy’s got to go to work.” Abby said to her daughter as she reached into the crib to pick her up.
“Otay,” Taylor said as she wiggled out of her mother’s grasp.
“Come back here Taylor. We have to get you dressed.” Abby said.
“Why? I want play.” Taylor said running away.
“Oh Taylor.” Abby said as she jogged after her little girl. She paused as she walked out the door, thinking of her other girl and her daddy.

“Gabrielle, don’t do that,” Luka said to his daughter, who was, at the moment, pulling various DVDs from the shelf in his Croatian condo, and throwing them into a pile.
“Why?” she asked him, an innocent look plastered all over her face.
“Because, it’s not right. Daddy’s got to go to work in a couple of hours, so if you want to play with me, you should consider that now.” Luka said with a smile.
“Otay Tata, play. Play!” Gabrielle shouted.
“Okay, but first, you have to clean up your mess.” he said.
“I clean up!” Gabrielle said as she stuck all the DVDs neatly on the shelf.
“Okay Gabby, let’s take a little walk to the park.” Luka said, scooping her up, remembering the one time he held both Tay and Gabby together when they were first born. He thought of how beautiful their mother was, and is. He missed them.
“Yay! Park!” Gabrielle screamed excitedly.
Chicago
“Hey Abby,” Susan said as she walked into the ER. Abby spotted her from behind admit.
“Hey Suse, what’s going on?” Abby asked her.
“Oh, nothing, I was just wondering how you were doing.” Susan said as she grabbed Abby’s arm and took her into the lounge.
“What?” Abby asked defensively.
“I know that the girls just had their second birthday and I was wondering how you were doing. I know that last year was really hard for you.” Susan said, putting a hand on Abby’s shoulder, letting her know that she was there for her.
“Yeah, I don’t know. I just keep thinking that it was a mistake to separate them. You know, what am I supposed to tell Taylor when she’s older? That her father and I couldn’t get along and we each took a child? To me, that sounds selfish. I don’t even know if I’m going to tell her.” Abby said, the tears building in her eyes.
“Abby, you will do what you feel is right. Things will be fine. You can call him or e-mail him you know.” Susan said, trying to tell her friend that it was, in fact, okay, to call her ex just to see how things were going.
“He doesn’t want to hear from me. He’s probably married and all that fun stuff. I don’t even know if it would be right to call him after these two years.” Abby said, thinking of feeling his warm touch. Was it wrong that they broke up? Why does she keep thinking about him? Did she still love him?

“Again Tata... again!” Gabby shouted, half laughing, from the swings.
“Okay,” Luka said to her, giving his daughter another little push. He walked around the swing set and faced her. She looked just like Abby. He can’t get over how much she looks like Abby. He continues to think about every moment that he had shared with Abby. Boy, she has been on his mind lately. Why? What is going on?
“You otay?” Gabby asked Luka as she saw him lost in thought.
“Yeah, I’m fine baby,” he said to her, giving her another push, realizing that she had stopped swinging back and forth. He thought about what his other daughter would be looking like now. Did he make a mistake by moving back to Croatia?
