Update!! Hope you enjoy!!! This is just part 1..
Chapter 9: The Airport Part 1
At the ticket counter...
Abby waited in line with Taylor, who still had yet to take her eyes off the picture in her hands. She seemed almost amused by it, like she was lost for words. She had the same dark features that the man in the picture had, and could not yet grasp the concept of her having her own daddy. Abby looked down at her little girl and watched her look at the picture. Just then, the lady at the desk said, “Next,” and Abby walked up to the counter, pulling Taylor along with her.
“Hi,” Abby said, as she put her purse on top of the counter.
“Hello, how may I help you today?” the lady asks.
“Um...I need the next available flight to Croatia.” Abby said.
“Let me see...” the lady said as she started to look things up on the computer, “the next flight leaves in two and a half hours.”
“Okay, I need two seats, are there any discounts available?” Abby asked, knowing that she was on a budget. She could not afford to pay that much money, even though she could not put a price on love, she could not spend too much.
“If you fly standby, the airfare is half off.” she said.
“Um, is the flight pretty booked? Or do you think that my daughter and I can both get on the flight?” Abby asked her, concerned.
“It looks half empty to me. I think you should be fine.” she said.
“Okay, I’ll take it.” Abby said.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
After Abby got her tickets and went through the security check, she went to her gate, Gate B25. She walked through the airport and continued to wonder all about what could happen. What would she find in Croatia? Would she find a family of Kovac’s, Luka happily married? Would she find her daughter to resent her? What could really lie in Croatia? Josip never told her about anything Luka related, just about Gabrielle. She was scared that this could be it. It could be the moment that she had been waiting for, for two years, OR it could just break her heart all over again. She went back through her mind as they were walking past the gates, every moment that she had cried because she missed him, cried because she knew she had another daughter out there, and she cried, just because no one was there to listen and comfort her. She took it day by day, week by week, and month by month, and that had been enough. She did not have the strength to make it go on for years. It just was no longer possible for her. It hurt her too much.
On the airplane...
Luka awoke suddenly to the sound of the flight attendant’s voice, “We are preparing for our descent, please put you tray tables up, and you seats in their upright positions. We will be coming around to collect any garbage you may have.” Luka put his tray table up, and looked over at Gabrielle, who seemed to be sleeping soundly. She had a long day, and Luka hoped that she would finally get to re-meet her mother soon. Luka hoped that Abby was not with anyone, because he needed her. He knew that he had not come to Chicago for the conference, but for the very chance of getting to see her. He had not seen her in person for two years, and he had not been with her in two years, or anyone for that matter. He needed her, more than anything, and he hoped, he prayed that what he wanted would prove to be true in a little while. He needed it to be true. He needed her.
In the airport parking lot...
Susan thought to herself as she pulled into the parking lot. Would she have to run all the way there? What time was Luka’s flight coming in? Was it five o’clock? She thought it was, so she had roughly an hour to get to that gate that she hoped Abby was at, and try to explain it when they saw each other. She knew that they would not miss seeing each other, and she had to get them together right there, unless they just knew right away that they needed each other, and that is what Susan hoped that they would do. Just go for it. She didn’t need anyone to be stubborn, and she didn’t want to have to explain the situation to the twins. It was just not practical. As she stepped out of the car, she feared that this could be it. This could be the day when her friends got their heads out of their butts and realized that they were definitely still in love, and that they let a stupid and silly fight get in the way of their amazing chemistry, between their love, and between their family.
At Gate 25...
Abby sat there patiently, by now, Taylor had fallen asleep in her lap and she was lost in thought. Was this the right thing to do? Of course it was. She knew she loved him and that there was no way in the world she could stop these feelings, so she had to go for it. As she sat there, she began to think of all the happy times they had shared before and a tear left her eye. She needed to see him. Even if that was all she could do, she would be satisfied. Just laying eyes on him would be amazing. It would be as if they would reconnect, after two long years. They had to reconnect.
On the airplane...
“Flight attendants, please prepare for landing.” the pilot had said over the intercom. The flight attendants went around once more, checking to make sure that everyone was in place, buckled up, and had their trays and chairs in their proper positions. Luka looked over at Gabrielle once more and she was still fast asleep. They were beginning their descent. For every hundred feet they dropped it seemed as if Luka got more and more anxious. He did not know why though. He didn’t even know if this was going to go right or not. He just had to make good decisions.
They hit the runway with a little thump and everyone clapped once the plane has stopped, waiting for the next available gate. Luka looked out the window, he read the gate number, “Gate 25,” he said to himself and stroked Gabby’s head. The airplane began to move again, and was parked at the gate. Luka just wanted to hop out of that plane and find her, but he didn’t think it would be that easy.
Little did he know, though, that it would in fact, be that easy.
At the airport...
Susan was jogging to the gate, the gate that she hoped was the one to Croatia. She had to get there in time. She couldn’t mess this up. She should have just told Abby about the whole thing, but she thought that she could handle the situation. She was getting closer...
Gate 15...Gate 16...Gate 18...She passed gate after gate, until finally she reached it, and searched for Abby, or Luka, hoping that this was the gate. She needed to help them understand that they were in love, if they hadn’t found out already...
On the airplane...
The flight attendants have just turned off the fasten seatbelt sign and Luka nearly jumps up, he scoop Gabrielle in my arms, and grabs his bags. He needed to get out of this plane, and find Abby, and his other daughter, Taylor. He needed to see them. As they open the door, he jogs off the plane, and once he is in the building, he stops dead in his tracks...
At Gate 25...
The airplane that will take me to Croatia is letting the passengers off. Abby glares at the exit door, waiting for all people to file out, hoping they will go faster, so that she can get on the plane to see him. Just as her thoughts progress, she sees someone, and has to look twice, before she knows it’s him and her. Was she dreaming? She saw the man look back, and then, she nearly fell off her chair, with Taylor in her lap.
