Update! Hope you like it! Chicago here he comes!!!
Chapter 7: Boarding
Dubrovnik
Luka was pacing the floor of his bedroom. He didn’t know what to do or what to expect. He was leaving for the airport in less than an hour, and in no more than ten hours he would be in Chicago, a place that he had yet to step foot in for two whole years. It was scary, he thought to himself, but then, after everything began to sink into his mind, he was actually relieved. He was away from her for too long. Away from both of them in fact. He thought about this over and over again in his mind, and he had no clue why he hadn’t gone back sooner. The feelings were apparent ever since he left. He never wanted to leave, and he shouldn’t have. It was his own fault that he left. She could have been persuaded, but he was stubborn, and he knew it for himself. But he gave up when he needed to be stronger, and she let him go. He wondered yet again if she missed him or Gabrielle, and somehow he knew that at this very moment she was thinking of him and her, and missing them as well. Some part of him could just channel these things. They had a connection over the seas, something that he had been turning away from. It was something that he knew was there, but was forced to believe that it was just his imagination, but it was not his imagination at all. His imagination was naughty, and this was no naughty deed or feeling. Sure, he yearned for her and wanted to be with her physically, but the part that kept telling him that she loved him was nothing of that sort. It was kind of like a gut feeling, and somehow, right now, it was reassuring him. Reassuring him that everything would work out because she loved him too, but he hoped that his gut was right, and that this gut was not his imagination.
Chicago
Abby lie in her bed, thinking of the times before he left. She thought, not only of him, but of her other daughter. She missed them so much, but she missed him especially at night, when she was sleeping, or at least trying to sleep. She missed the closeness he always seemed to have with him. Now, that side of the bed was empty, and she had yet to lay another body on it. She wished so much to smell his scent again. Part of her just wanted to buy a bottle of his cologne to spray on her pillow, and inhale it with every breath, as if he were really there, but she knew that if she did that, it would only make her miss him more. She often wondered on these sleepless nights, whether or not he thought about her. She would like to say that he did, and that he didn’t move on, but she was always the person to think the worse case scenario. She longed to see him, or even just to talk with him. She constantly wondered how her little girl was doing and if Luka had to tell her about her mommy. It seemed that without him, her head was constantly thinking, thinking about the things that could have been, of everything they lost, and why it happened, why she acted that way. Was she depressed? Did she just need a little break or air breather? Maybe it was too drastic to end it. It probably was, but it seemed to be working out. It was just that she could never stop thinking about them. She hoped that he was thinking about her and Taylor too. And she hoped that he had not moved on, because she wanted him back, but she had no idea how to do that. It was a mystery. She would call Susan in the morning to tell her all about her latest feelings and see what she thought. Would it be weird to call him again? And would it be weird to fly to Croatia? Would it be weird to fly out to see him? She wanted to see him, heck, she needed to see him. She needed to know that these feelings were true, and the only way to do that was to see him. Should she ask Susan if it was right to go see him? Or should she just go and take that risk?
Little did she know that he was about to hop on a plane with Gabrielle and see her and Taylor.
Dubrovnik
“Tata, you weady?” Gabby asked as she ran through the room.
“Yeah, we just have to wait for Djed. He’s coming to pick us up. Are you ready my little angel?” Luka asked her.
“Wes Tata, I want to tee my Mama.” Gabby said with pleading eyes, Luka looked at her and it seemed that his heart had broken. He knew that there would always be something missing in his little girl’s life, but now he wanted to fix that, so she no longer would have to see other kids with mothers and wonder where her mother was. Even though she had never wondered that, he knew the day would come soon.
“Gabby, I want you to do something for me, okay?” Luka asked the little girl standing in front of him.
“Otay.” Gabby said.
“I want you to keep this picture of your Mommy and whenever you feel like you need to see, don’t be afraid to look at it.” Luka said, handing the little girl the picture.
“Um....otay Tata.” Gabby said, and took the picture, holding onto it with one hand, staring at her Mother, as Luka watched on.
“Thank you baby. Now you keep that safe, okay?” Luka said.
“I will.” Gabby said, and then the phone rang.
“Halo?” Luka said into the receiver as he picked up the phone.
“Luka, it’s me. I’m outside. Do you need help with your luggage?” Josip asked.
“No, we’re fine. We’ll be down in a moment.” Luka said, and then hung up the phone. “Gabby, let’s go! Grab your bear and your picture.” He said as he grabbed the luggage and duffle he packed and their sweatshirts.
“Otay, I’m weady!” Gabby said as she waited impatiently for her father by the door. “Why you taking so long?” she asked and Luka cracked up seeing her waiting like that, teddy bear in one arm, and her special picture in the other.
“Okay, let’s go.” Luka said, and he locked the door and went to the elevator doors.
When they got to the airport, Gabby had fallen asleep and Luka had to put her in her stroller to manage all he had with him. “Thank you Tata, I will see you in about a week.” Luka said as he embraced his father. He had no clue that Josip was flying in the next day.
“Okay Luka, I will pick you up here, call me when you get in okay?” Jpsip said.
“I will,” Luka said, and with that, he turned around and rolled one suitcase with a car seat on top, carried a duffle on his one shoulder, and pushed the stroller with one hand. He couldn’t wait to check in the car seat and suitcase, then his load would be lighter.
Chicago
Abby was just drifting off to sleep when she heard screams from Taylor’s bedroom. She immediately jumped up and ran to her room to see what was wrong. “Mama!” Taylor shouted.
“What’s wrong baby?” Abby asked her as she sat down on the foot of the bed, since the rails were up to keep her from falling.
“Monter!” Taylor shouted.
“What monster?” Abby asked as Taylor climbed into Abby’s lap.
“Down the bed! He coming to det me!” Taylor said as she covered her face with her hands.
“Oh, okay. Do you want to sleep in mommy’s bed tonight?” Abby asked her with a soothing voice.
“Otay.” Taylor said, and Abby picked her up and carried her into her room.
After she tucked her in under the covers, Abby said, “Goodnight Tay, I love you.”
“I wuv you too Mommy.” Taylor said, and she closed her eyes. Abby got into bed next to her and she liked having a little person next to her. She wasn’t alone. Her bed was no longer empty, but she still needed him. Her little girl had filled the empty space, for now, but what about later.
Dubrovnik
About an hour later the flight was starting to board. Luka stood in the line with parents with children under eight, and gave the attendant his tickets. “Thank you.” he said as they handed them back. There was no turning back now. He was going to Chicago, to see the one that captivated his heart, he just hoped that she still had him on her mind, and that it wasn’t too late. As he walked through the doors of the airplane, he realized that taking this chance was the greatest he has ever taken. He wanted it to work, and stepping onto that plane made him feel more sure of himself, as if he were sealing the deal. He sat Gabby down in the seat next to him and took a seat. She was still sleeping, and her hand still clutched the picture of Abby. He stroked her cheek and then gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead. Now it was like a waiting game. Would he be right in going to Chicago? Or would he be wrong and have everything that he had hoped for washed down through the drain? He was hoping that his gut was right for a change, and that his love for her was equivalent to her love for him. He would just have to wait to find out.

Chapter 8: Changes
On the plane...
Gabrielle was sitting next to Luka, watching a DVD, very relaxed. Luka, on the other hand, was nervously shaking his leg, a horrible habit of his, and could not sit still. He was very nervous about going to Chicago, but he knew that it would work out, it had to work out. “Tata, what you doning?” Gabby asked him. Luka just looked back at her and smiled.
“I’m a little nervous, that’s all baby. I can’t wait to be back in Chicago.” Luka said to her and then looked away again. He could not stop the shaking of his leg, and it was starting to drive him crazy. When he shook that leg of his, he was most likely thinking about something, something that he could never stop thinking about, or rather, some two people.
“Oh otay, can I watch Bawney now?” she asked him. “Sure,” Luka said, and he dug through the bag to find the DVD.
Chicago
Abby picked up her cell phone and dialed Susan’s number. She had to ask her if it was right to get on a plane to Croatia. She had to know if he still loved her. She could no longer hold her feelings in, and she could not be a mother alone, especially now that Taylor knew all about her father. Well, not exactly all about him, but she knew enough for Abby to feel uncomfortable.
“Hello?” Susan said.
“Hi Suse, it’s Abby.” Abby replied, and began to mess with her hair, a habit of hers. Whenever she was nervous, she would mess it up just a little.
“Hey! What’s up?” Susan asked her, bubbly.
She was really bubbly today. Abby thought to herself and she wondered why. “Susan, I think I’m going to buy a plane ticked and fly to Croatia.” Abby said.
“You’re gonna what?” Susan practically screamed into the phone, she could not let her plan go down. They have not seen each other in two years, and now they both get the brilliant idea to see each other, at the same time. No way, is that happening. Susan would not let it happen.
“I am going to buy Taylor and myself tickets to Croatia.” Abby said, more sure of herself.
“Are you sure Abby?” Susan asked her, more for herself. She needed to buy herself some time. Abby could not get onto that plane. She just couldn’t. They needed to be together, and the only way to do that was to keep her in Chicago. That way, her and Josip’s plan would work, and everybody would be happy, especially Abby and Luka.
“I think I am Susan. For some reason, it took me two whole years to realize that I still love him, and I don’t want to think that he has moved on. I just need to see him, and right now, a picture is not good enough for me. I just have to see them. I think I’ve had a revelation in my life, and I have to follow it.” Abby said very certain of herself.
Susan thought to herself on the other line. What could she possibly do? Abby was very certain that she was going to get on that plane to Croatia, and she didn’t think that she could persuade her not to go, but she could just change her plans a little. “If that’s really what you want Abby, go for it.” she said, and began to think how she was going to pull this off.
“Okay, well then, I better pack and get to that airport.” Abby said.
“Okay, well what airport are you going to go to?” Susan asked her, hoping that she wouldn’t sound too happy, and suspicious.
“O’Hare. Why?” Abby asked.
Perfect, was all Susan could think of. “Oh, I just wanted to know, well you better pack.” Susan said, trying to stray from the subject, and Abby did let it go.
“Okay, bye.” Abby said.
“Bye,” Susan replied.
Abby began running around the apartment searching for things to pack. She saw Taylor playing in her room, and said, “Taylor, we’re going on a trip.”
“A what Mama?” Taylor asked.
“A trip. We’re going to see someone.” Abby said, and began to pack Taylor’s things, and then went to her room and grabbed anything she could possibly think of, as if she was going to miss her flight. She just had to see them. She had to.
On the plane...
Luka thought about how much longer he was going to have to be cramped on the plane. He looked at his watch. Two hours. Two hours until he would be back where he belonged. Back where he needed to be. Back to the ones he loved the most, aside from Gabby. He needed them, and it took him way too long to figure that out. “Sir?” he was suddenly taken from his thoughts from the flight attendant asking him if he needed anything else to drink.
“Oh, sorry.” Luka said to her.
“It’s no problem. Do you need anything else sir?” she asked.
“No, thanks.” he said, and began rethinking through his thoughts, but he was yet again interrupted, this time by the little girl next to him.
“Tata?” Gabby asked him.
“Yes Gabby?” he said.
“Aw we dere yet?” she asked with the eyes, that Abby always gave him.
“Almost, baby, almost.” Luka said.
Chicago
“Okay Tay, let’s go.” Abby said, as she rolled her suitcase and had her carry-on on her shoulder. She stood by the front door waiting for Taylor.
“But where aw we goning?” Taylor asked her.
“We are going to the airport.” Abby said.
“Why?” Taylor asked her. She just had to be so inquisitive today.
“To get on an airplane to see someone special.” Abby said, hoping that he would still he her something special, but for some reason, she didn’t feel that it was necessary to tell her about her sister.
“Oh, who?” she asked, her curious side getting the best of her today.
“Him.” Abby said, handing her the torn picture. “I want you to keep it. He will always be thinking of you.” she said, and held Tay’s hand.
“Tank you Mama.” Taylor said, and she held the picture in her hand very tightly.
Taylor held that picture the whole ride to the airport and never let it go. She continued to stare at it, wondering if she will get to see this man in person. “I wanna tee him.” she said quietly to herself so Abby couldn’t hear her.
In Susan’s car...
Susan was driving to the airport as well. She was trying to make this work. She thought she had the plan all figured out, but now she had to call Josip. She picked up the phone and called him. “Hello Josip?” she said as soon as he answered.
“Ah, hello Susan.” he said.
“We have a problem.” she said.
“Oh, no, she’s on her way to Croatia isn’t she?” he asked her.
“Yeah, she is. How did you guess?” she asked him, wondering how this man was so smart.
“I just had a feeling, you sounded worried.” he said.
“Yeah, I was, but I think I have it all figured out. She’s heading there right now, and so am I. I am going to meet her and just buy a cheap flight to get into the gate. Since she is flying to Croatia, and he is coming from Croatia, the chances are that she will be at the same gate that he gets off at, so that’s where I’ll be. But at the right moment. To prevent him from going any further, and for Abby to see him. I just hope it works.” she ranted, as she drove to the airport.
“I think it will. I’ll try to catch the next flight to Chicago.” Josip said.
“Okay, I’ll see you here. Wish me luck.” Susan said.
“I wish you ALL the luck possible my dear, you are going to need it, especially since these are the two most stubborn people in the world. They do not like to listen to others. You just snap that whip.” Josip said.
“Okay, thanks, but it’s crack that whip. Bye.” Susan said, and she hung up the phone. She really hoped that this would work. It had to.
