I just realized that I don't even remember the last time I updated this thing. Hmmm...
Abby leaned back into Luka’s arms and settled into the familiar embrace. “This is great, Abby!” Luka whispered. Abby merely nodded her head in agreement. Cradling her stomach protectively, Abby’s eyes fluttered shut, and she was momentarily asleep. “Abby?” came Maggie’s call from the living room. Abby’s eyes snapped open when she remembered the fiasco sitting in her living room. “Abby, is everything okay?” Maggie wandered into the kitchen. Abby wiped her eyes and turned to face her mother. “Yeah Mom, everything’s fine,” she said, for the first time really believing in her words. “But…why are you here, honestly?” “Abby, like I said before, you’re my baby and you’re having a baby. Where else would I be?” Maggie reached out to touch Abby’s arm, and her daughter reeled back. “Anywhere else in the world, Maggie! I don’t want you near my kids. You screwed me and Eric over, and I don’t want that to happen again!” With that, Abby stormed past her mother and back into the living room. Susan was standing by the front door, her eyes searching the room for anything to focus on that wasn’t Abby. “Suze, it’s okay. It’s not your fault. Maggie is, well, I don’t want to go into this. You’ve really got to get to bed. We’ve got to get you to the airport by 7:00 tomorrow morning, right?” “Right,” Susan nodded. “I really am sorry about this.” Abby sighed and followed Susan up the stairs. As her fingers touched the doorknob to the master bedroom, Abby couldn’t help but wonder why Luka was still in the kitchen with Maggie.

Well, it's been quite a while, my friends, hasn't it? Well, Abby, this update is for you, and you already know why...oh, and TDWD doesn't support many of the Croatian characters, so I've got a bunch of ae things instead...
“Maggie, I understand that you love your daughter, but this is NOT the kind of stress she needs right now,” Luka reasoned. “Being pregnant is hard enough, but with twins, that’s added stress to both mother and children. Come on, I’ll pay for your ticket back and we’ll call when Matt and Liv are born, okay?” “That’s very nice of you to offer, Luka, but my daughter needs me now,” Maggie attempted to push past Luka, but he grabbed her by the wrist. “Hey, let go of me!” Maggie writhed and tried to twist out of Luka’s grasp, her voice resembling that of a whiney toddler. “Mrs. Wyczenski, I can’t do that! Pick any hotel in the city, and I’ll put you up there, but you CANNOT be HERE! Ugoditi , pravedan dopust tvoj kæerka i JA sam! It's NE vrijedan, Maggie. Pravedan iæi!” Luka dropped Maggie’s wrist and leaned up against the wall. What had come over him? “Just, stay on the couch tonight Maggie. We’ll deal with this in the morning.” Maggie, obviously shaken, didn’t argue, and silently sat on the couch and unfolded the blanket and pillow that occupied the end. Luka nodded to her and hurried up the stairs. As he opened the door to the master bedroom, Luka was shocked to see Abby standing in front of the mirror, cradling her stomach. “Oh, Luka!” she gasped, dropping her hands and turning to face him. “I was just…” “It’s okay, Abby, you don’t have to make excuses,” Luka said, struggling to make sure everything that came out oh his mouth was in English. Coming up behind her, Luka slid his arms around Abby’s waist. “I love you, stretch marks and all.” “Hey,” Abby yelped as she twisted to face him. “And whose fault is this? I didn’t get pregnant on my own, you know!” “Trust me, I know,” Luka murmured, a devilish grin appearing across his face. “Oh, how I know.” Smiling, Luka reached for the wall and fumbled with the light switch. Turning off the lights, he held his wife just that much tighter.

Here's another update...
“Luka, WAKE UP!” Abby shook her husband awake. It was a little past 8:00 AM, and she’d successfully called in a few favors and gotten Luka an appointment with his neurologist. “Hmmm? What?” Luka rolled over to face Abby. “Why are we waking up?” “Because YOU have an appointment with your neuro. At 8:45!” “What? Since when?” Luka sat up. Usually he remembered this type of thing, but having just gotten back from their honeymoon, Luka gave himself some leeway. “Since like ten minutes ago,” Abby said as she pulled the covers off of her half-asleep husband. “I called in a few favors, and I got you an appointment. I’m really worried about you, Luka.” “Abby,” Luka interjected, “is this really necessary? Sometimes I just don’t want to put my words into English. It is easier for me to think in Croatian.” “That’s NOT the reason, Luka. That doesn’t just HAPPEN in the middle of normal conversation. It even happened with my mother! I talked to her this morning, amazingly enough, and she said that you started speaking in Croatian in the MIDDLE of a sentence. I don’t like it, Luka! I don’t want to spend every day wondering whether or not you’ll remember what my name is, what your name is, what our children’s names are!” Abby’s rant ended when she sat on the bed, her head in her hands. Luka could see how obviously he’d hurt and scared Abby, and he hated to admit it, but he was scared, too. “Abby, my darling, I am sorry,” Again, Luka found himself fishing for the correct words in the correct language. “I’m scared too, you know.” Abby didn’t really know what to say. Her big, strong, fearless husband was admitting to being scared of something. In a way, it made Abby herself feel tinier. Leaning back into the pillows of the unmade bed, Abby hastily wiped away the angry tears she found sliding down her cheeks. Wordlessly, Luka sat next to her, soothing her, in a physical manner understood across the language barrier that seemed to be damming their relationship. “No, no, I’m good,” Abby muttered as she stood, however slowly. “Come on, we’re going to be late, and after what I went through to get you this appointment, we can’t afford that!” In almost record time, Abby was out of bed, awake, and fully dressed. Luka, on the other hand, was still sitting on the bed where Abby had left him .Admitting he was afraid had taken a lot, and now Luka wasn’t sure where to go next.

Second update today!
A half an hour later, Abby herself sitting in the waiting room of Luka’s neurologist, Dr. Sassen’s, office. After describing Luka’s speech patterns when they arrived, Dr. Sassen decided to send Luka for a CT-scan. Abby was left in the waiting room, and was now dancing her fingers across her ever-growing stomach. “Dr. Kovac?” Abby looked up at the mention of her new name. “Your husband’s back from CT and Dr. Sassen would like to go over his findings with you,” the nurse continued. Abby nodded her thanks and collected her things before following the middle-aged woman back to an office. “Ahh, Mrs. Kovac,” Dr. Sassen’s voice was the comforting tone Abby recognized as the one all doctors slip into when they’ve made a particularly grim discovery. “It’s Dr. Kovac, actually. I work downstairs, in the ER,” Abby quipped as she settled into a chair next to Luka. She reached over and took his hand, and discovered it to be cold and clammy. Obviously, Luka had already picked up on Sassen’s tone. “Um, can we just get this over with?” “Abby, we mustn’t rush these things,” Luka said gently. “What is there to rush? Whatever is causing this is already there, it’s not like we’re waiting for it to develop!” “Your wife does have a point, Dr. Kovac,” Dr. Sassen intervened. He stood and turned on the lightboxes attached to the wall, backlighting the CT-series Luka had just had done. “Now, if you look here, you see the speech center of Luka’s brain. You can see at many points where we emotionally stimulated him, areas of the speech center go dark., while others, toward this side, light up.” Abby’s medical knowledge must have stayed home that morning, because she didn’t think she understood what the doctor was telling them. “Wha--what?” “To the best of our knowledge, this is residual damage from the carbon monoxide poisoning. Why the symptoms didn’t manifest earlier, we can’t explain.” Abby’s safe little world was being systematically torn to shreds, and the least she could as for was a reason. “Why?” “In layman’s terms, whenever your husband is push to a certain emotional extreme, in his case being anger, the English language part of the speech center of his brain essentially shuts off, leaving him speaking in Croatian. I do hope I’ve explained everything. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have other patients to see.” With that Dr. Sassen left Abby and Luka alone in his office. Luka turned to look at Abby, who had silently begun sobbing. Unsure what to do, all Luka could do was think “Where do we go from here?”
