Well, I have something that can pretend to be an update. It's short, but it's better than nothing, right?
“Damage to the speech center of your brain?” Abby though aloud. She and Luka were sitting at Starbucks, each holding a cup of coffee. Given the situation, Abby felt comfortable succumbing to caffeine for the first time since she’d learned she was pregnant. “I know,” Luka said. Emotionally, he and Abby were both drained, and only talking for the sake of whatever normalcy was left in their lives. “I have to work today…” “Oh,” Abby replied half-heartedly. Looking down, she realized that she couldn’t see her feet. “Hey, do my shoes match?” “What?” Luka looked up from his coffee, genuinely confused. “I can’t see my feet anymore, and I just realized that there’s a distinct possibility that my shoes don’t match.” Despite the situation, Luka couldn’t help but laugh. Inspecting Abby’s feet, he made faces to throw her off. “Well…” “They don’t match, do they? That’s wonderful, just WONDERFUL!” Abby looked down into her coffee as tears slid down her cheeks. Luka immediately felt bad for leading her on. “No, Abby, darling, you’re fine. Your shoes match, honestly, they do.” He slid his chair over next to Abby’s and put his arms around her. Abby sobbed into his shoulder. “Everything’s going to be okay, Abby. It’ll all be okay.” Biting his lip, Luka prayed he was right.

I know, I haven't updated in FOREVER. I got preoccupied, but now that school is drawing to a close, I'll have more time to updated this (and my other) fanfic. And remember, as always, read and review. I THRIVE on feedback!
Later, Luka watched Abby as he walked into the ER. The last thing he wanted to do was leave her alone with her mother, especially after receiving news like what they’d learned earlier. Abby had reassured him that everything would be fine, and they’d get home okay, but Luka didn’t know if he could really trust her. Sighing, Luka prepared himself for another day in the ER. Abby hadn't gone home. She sat in the diner across the street and watched the hustle and bustle of the ambulance bay. A once-steaming mug of hot chocolate sat untouched in front of her. “Will that be all, miss?” a young waitress asked as she approached the table. “Oh, yeah…” Abby stood slowly, one hand on her stomach, and tossed a five dollar bill on the table on her way out. She walked out to the El station and waited for the train. Half an hour later, she had arrived home. Abby looked in the front window, and saw her mother in the living room, rearranging things. “Mom? I’m home,” Abby yelled as she walked in the door. She immediately sat on the couch, eager to get the weight off her feet. Abby was two weeks shy of being eight months pregnant, and with each passing day, she wanted more and more to have her waistline back. “Oh, Abby, good, you’re back,” Maggie exclaimed as she emerged from behind the china hutch that occupied the corner. “How did that appointment go? I’m sure everything’s fine.” “No, Mom, everything’s not fine. The speech center of Luka’s brain was damaged when he had the carbon monoxide accident. Now, when pushed to emotional extremes, especially anger, he becomes unable to speak in English, and reverts to Croatian. So, no, everything is not okay!” Angry tears filled Abby’s eyes as she stomped up the stairs. Passing by Olivia and Matthew’s rooms, Abby cradled her large stomach protectively, as if to shelter her unborn children from evils already being inflicted upon them by the world. She quickly opened and closed the door the bedroom she and Luka shared before settling on their bed. It was then that she made a call she never dreamed she would.

I'm totally aware that this is quite short, but it's late and I'm tired.
“Hi, this is Abby Lockhart, is Al--Jessica there?” Abby bit her lip as she waited for the person on the other end of the line to respond. “Yeah, uhh…JESS! PHONE!” Abby could hear the man on the other end yelling, and it was then that she realized that it was Morris on the phone. She shivered at the thought of anyone voluntarily spending time with him outside of the ER. “Hey Abby, what’s up?” Albright asked as she got on the phone. She sounded slightly short of breath, and Abby did NOT want to think about what she may have been doing. “Uhh, I was just wondering if you were on today, because I thought maybe we could, like, umm do something together. But you sound kinda busy…” Abby was not about to interrupt the one time in Morris’ life when he’d actually get some action. “Oh, no, I just got off the treadmill. What did you think…wow, no!! Anyway, what did you want to do?” “I was thinking we could go out for coffee or something. Well, not coffee, since neither one of us is allowed to have it anymore. I, I just really need to talk to someone.” “Sure, where do you want to go?” Abby was surprised that Albright had agreed so quickly, but was glad that she had someone to talk to in person. Susan had taken a cab to the airport that morning, and Abby didn’t want to bother her with problems she couldn’t fix. “Just about anywhere that isn’t my house,” Abby replied. “My mother’s here…” “Oh, that’s not good, is it? Anyway, do you want to meet at Ike’s in say, 20 minutes?” “Sure, that sounds good. I’ll see you there. Bye!” Abby and Albright ended their conversation and Abby went to change her shirt, which was tearstained and sloppy. As quietly as possible, she left the house through the front door, and took the car to Ike’s. She and Albright weren’t exactly on a first name basis yet, so this was sure to be an interesting meeting.
