I have a thought ... perhaps Luka's brother is a priest?

The writers can do what they want of course but I think it's unlikely; I'd have expected that to have come up during the baptism discussion. If it's dropped in now it will be extremely contrived, and I can't even see what would be gained by it.

Perhaps it would lead Abby on a road to spiritual recovery?

Is Abby in need of spiritual recovery? I realise that she's probably been getting a liitle too close for comfort with spirits of another sort, but she isn't religious.

True ... however in a recovery program, spirituality has nothing whatsoever to do with organized religion.

Well, they went that route with Luka in his Bishop story line as well as in 'The Lost'. They have had Abby on the brink of some sort of spiritual epiphany on several occasions in the past two seasons. It would be an interesting take. And I wonder how Maura would feel about her character delving into something like that? She said on a talk show last fall that she wasn't religious....albeit being given a rigorous Catholic education.

Perhaps, however, IMO and from personal experience a representative of organized religion still interacts as a family member among their own, rather than a spiritual advisor. In any event, it was simply a thought - mere speculation on my part.

Personal growth, yes, but not spiritual enlightenment or epiphany. And conversion to religion isn't exactly something that seems very Abby-esque. While AA does involve religious and/or spiritual aspects, it's not mandatory that everyone believes in them. Many people in AA aren't religious. The "higher power" bit can be interpreted in a lot of ways - personal goals, for example, can be higher powers for some people. Or family. God doesn't have to play in. If they fed us some story line about her being "saved," I'd vomit. Not to mention find it in poor taste and out of character.

I hadn't seen the hints about a spiritual epiphany either; emotional epiphany perhaps, emotional growth and the increased openness that goes with it, but not spiritual. I think that anything overtly spiritual or quasi religious would be very jarring at this stage.

Hmmm...maybe I have a different perspective of 'spiritual epiphany'. I never really envisioned her embracing a religious aspect as much as a Godly one. Coming to the realization that God really does have a place in her life and what has happened to her??? I think she has been curious about people who can embrace that. But I am not sure the current PTB would be able to write that effectively...or at least to my satsifaction. Hope came off as a real gagger in the beginning....and then they let her slip towards the end. I am not looking forward to what they will be doing with the ooops...spoiler. Luka's Bishop story line and his salvation in 'The Lost' was well written by JOhn Wells and portrayed, but that was a while ago. Different staff writers and all that.

I'm not sure there's a difference. And to be honest, it's not something I see cohesive with Abby's character. Not to mention it would sort of cheapen her emotional development if it was all chalked up to "finding God".

Doesn't have to be ALL chalked up to that. I would hate that as well. I would just like to see her reach the same sort of understanding that Luka has. Not have it be something that she just insists on with the same sort of urgency that she did when Joe was on his way to surgery. Just a simple acceptance....
