I would have to agree with you, Mrseyre. I would be MUCH happier with an Abby that sent Luka on his way with Joe so she can work through this alone. The thought of being 'rescued' by either Luka or Carter or anyone else would minimize the growth she has shown as a character. Rehab on her own is the best route. And I have said it before...we would get the return of a stronger, more determined Abby for the end of the season. With these spoilers it would also seem that Pratt knows where is really is. Yay. They had a nice rapport.
I am stoked to be seeing Jeannie again....and Haleh! Jeannie was the first ER character that I was truly invested in as a viewer.

I think I'm beginning to feel like a carby, bitching about actors' contracts and how this all would be different. Ok...I've made peace with the alone Abby again but I really hope at least she was there with him for the funeral and then came back alone.
Nothing amazes me anymore...recycling storylines seems to be their fav. sport nowdays. So I wouldn't be surprised to see them pull something a la Doug & Carol. I just want this over with so we can have season 10-13 strong Abby back.
Although I still hope there's something left in the cards, because from the spoilers, up too now we don't have Luka realising that this is a disease. But...11 episodes out, 11 more to go.

Well, she's certainly at a low ebb at the moment but if she's been strong before she can be again.
Recycled plots have never bothered me; life recycles plots all the time.

Touche, mrseyre...I feel as if I am living my mother's 'recycled' life while dealing with my newly minted teens. I say things all the time that I remember hearing as a kid....and wonder how my mother's pointed finger ended up on my hand??? Heh....
Just posted something in relation to the alcoholism and Abby's relapse on another thread. I have an internet friend (who happens to also be an ER fan) that just revealed her long standing AA status to me and we had a 'discussion' about Abby's relapse. She does not have any interest in spoilers and I respect that. She feels the whole issue is being very well represented on the show right now. That a true alcoholic relapse can - and does - happen this way. That a hangover can be in progress without people picking up on it. (Although I was a little disappointed that the people around her who care about her, didn't pick up on it.) She said that this story line must get worse before it can get better...unless they choose to go the 'happy ending television resolution' route. Heh Sorry to say she won't be disappointed.

Re: Abby taking personal time ... we knew she was doing paper work for time when she was still drinking to go to Croatia. IMO, she did go and either they all returned together and she is with her family and back in recovery or she came back alone for a short while to explain Goran's absence. However, I keep thinking we're going to see a lot more of Goran than was let on simply because he is in the cast pics and is still getting top billing when he appears. BTW ... rehab is not a necessity in Abby's case as she's had long term recovery and it appears that she isn't constantly drinking based on the spoilers.

For me I'm glad that Abby is not in this episode. I think I need a break from Abby and her drinking. Not sure how I am going to feel about her after this story runs it's course.
As far as Abby going to Croatia I think it makes more sense if she stays behind and begins her rehab or whatever treatment she chooses.
And it sounds like Luka could also use some type of therapy too. He has a wife that has fallen off the wagon and may have possibility cheated.

I don't think Abby would stay behind and not attend the funeral. Perhaps the reason she's not in is because both she and Luka are finally taking the time they need to be family and focus on their recovery. It is a family disease.

BTW ... rehab is not a necessity in Abby's case as she's had long term recovery and it appears that she isn't constantly drinking based on the spoilers. Rehabilitation need not mean checking into a facility though. It may simply take the form of attending as many meetings as are necessary and/or seeing a counsellor or therapist, and that too would require her to be free of work commitments for a while. Given the often highly unsocial hours the staff are shown to work on the show it would obviously be easier to accommodate that if Luka's schedule and childcare were removed from the equation. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Luka takes Joe to Croatia, leaving Abby time to work this through on her own, and I get the sense from Pratt's remarks that she isn't out of the country, although at present I don't think there is enough in the spoilers to say where Luka is. larue - it's good to know that your friend isn't throwing up her hands in disgust at the way this is beng written (and huge respect to her for her 15 years of sobriety). And as for turning into your mother - the icy hand of dread closed round my heart the first time I heard the words "Because I say so!" come out of my own mouth. Shudder.

i'm getting the feeling that in their dialogues in the previous episode she says she isn't going with him.
I know that people here are more of an abby fan than luka, but really...for the first time he has found someone on the same level as he is and what made them so healthy is the fact they they really were 50-50 and equals in their relationship. Now he's been reduced again...it's just the feeling I get...bad,bad feeling. If I would've read this in a fic (the crying and kneeling luka part ) I just would've thought that the writer is a 10 years old.
Baaaad....very baaaad....and the resolution isn't just going to pop in an episode or two...I like drama ...a lot...season 9 drama was great...but I need to know the outcome to actually enjoy it!

I think that if in the 300th episode Abby's hit her rock bottom and realized she needs help, it makes sense for Luka (and maybe Joe) to go without her. She shouldn't delay treatment in whatever form that might be once she's at that point.
The time it takes to travel to Croatia, go to the funeral and come back could be time well spent getting back to the sober Abby she needs to be. I think in the long run that's more important to Luka and Joe than whether or not she goes to a funeral for man she never knew.

Not me!
Abby needs to act fast; Luka has a chance to take Joe to meet his family in the place he grew up and so it seems to me to be mututally beneficial. Nothing stopping Abby going later.
I'm ambivalent about the crying scene. On the page it comes across as pathetic with Luka (again) apologising to Abby, but until we see the resolution of the scene I 'd hesitate to write it off completely.

From the spoilers I think she attends the Funeral in Croatia and have very good talks with Luka and decided to get back to Chicago to start her recovery in her own and asks Luka to stay with Joe while she ends her Residency and pull through her recovery.
The fact that Joe might be staying with Luka for at least 2 or 3 months makes me wonder that by that time the baby should be learning how to talk and if he stays in Croatia he'll be learning Croatian and when he gets back he'll be learning English but with that fact Abby could feel some lack of connection because the language issue. Just a thought...

How long can Luka reasonably expect to be allowed to stay away from work, especially following his recent prolonged absence? A short period of compassionate leave perhaps but 3-4 months?

Perhaps the Kovac family has returned to Chicago and Abby is just focusing on family and recovery. They could actually have Luka working different shifts to accommodate her meeting schedule. Again, IMO, I have a feeling we're going to see more of GV and less of MT than we originally expected.
