If she is working and then tripping off to a meeting of some kind every single day (which is what Anspugh is requiring), it would cut into family time anyway. It's nice that Luka is allowing Abby to choose when she allows him into the recovery process though. I would hope that he is participating in some sort of learning process on his own with a Croatian Al-Anon program. It's possible and I would like the writers to allude to that.

AA meetings are at all hours, as the urge to use doesn't occur at a set time between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. just as Abby's work schedule is fluid, so are AA meeting schedules.
Recovery includes family support which requires the families to actually be there and be involved with the addict in question, not on the other side of the world. Beyond that, they have spent no time together as a family since their wedding (no, the month with Niko under foot does not count). A prolonged stay makes no sense if we are to assume Luka and Abby are in this for the long haul.
Once again, badly contrived writing to fit an actor's schedule.

Given that it's Abby and she has never gone through this with a family in tow, I don't think that it's all that ill contrived. It's what they had to do with what they had.
