Thanks guys, new update!! ;DChapter 38
Downstairs“Aunt Susan, Uncle Jake?” Lily asked as she walked into the kitchen. The two of them had come over after Lexy had been taken to the morgue, to assist with the children and be support for Abby and Luka. Neela was supposed to be on her way; and Susan had thought for a moment of the old times when they were working together.
“Yes Lily?” Jake questioned. Lily could tell that they had been talking quietly to one another and that they had been talking about Lexy. Both of their eyes were wet with tears.
“Mommy and Daddy are lying on the floor in the bathroom,” Lily told them with a perplexed look on her face.
“They are?” Susan asked with a bemused look on her face. “Really?” Lily nodded her head.
“Yeah, why are they on the bathroom floor when we have beds?” Jake put his hand out and took Lily’s, bring her towards him, picking her up and placing her onto his lap.
“That’s a good question, Lily,” Jake told her, smiling lightly. “It’s something that your mom has done before, and I guess your dad thought that it might make him feel better, too.”
“Oh,” she whispered. “Maybe I should lie on the bathroom floor too. I miss Lexy.”
“I know you do,” Susan told her patting her hand. “We do, too.”
“Where are the others?” Jake questioned Lily about her siblings. Lily shrugged.
“I think Lana and Lee are upstairs, Luke is in his room. I tried to knock, but he won’t answer.”
Just then Lana and Lee walked into the room, both with sullen faces.
“Mom and dad are on the bathroom floor,” Lana stated with a confused expression on her face. “Do you think they’re sick?”
Susan let out a small chuckle, and shook her head, “No, Lana, they aren’t sick. Just sad.” Susan paused. “Are you guys hungry? I can make you…um…” She stood up trying to find something in the kitchen for them to eat, that she could also make.
“But Aunt Susan,” Lee told her, “Mommy says that you can’t cook.” Susan turned, a baffled smile on her face.
“Is that what she said?”
“Yes,” Lee told her nodding. Lana lightly hit his arm.
“You weren’t supposed to tell her that.” Lana informed him, crossing her arms across her chest. “Lexy’s right, boys are stupid!” At the mention of Lexy’s name, she covered her lips with her hand, in shock.
“Its okay, you can say her name,” Jake reassured her. Lana slowly nodded, and wiped away tears that were building up behind her eyes.
“Hey guys,” Neela said as she entered the kitchen, with a big pink box in her hand. “Here kids, I brought you some doughnuts. I didn’t want your Aunt Susan poisoning you with her, um…cooking.”
Lee tore the box out of Neela’s hand and placed it on the table. Each of the kids picked out a doughnut, but then put them back down.
“What? I thought all kids liked doughnuts.”
“I’m not hungry,” Lana said.
“Me either…”
“Me too…”
“Well, you need to eat,” Neela told them, “Where are Abby and Luka?”
“On the bathroom floor,” Lily said simply, as she took a bite out of her doughnut spilling jelly down her face.
“Oh,” Neela said simply.
In the bathroomLuka turned onto his back, looking up at the ceiling. But Abby remained still, her eyes closed, yet she wasn’t sleeping.
The door opened, and Luka sat up to see Luke standing there.
“Hey Luke,” he said softly, causing Abby’s eyes to open as she looked over to the door, still not moving.
“Can…can I join you?”
“Sure, buddy,” Luka told him, scooting over and allowing Luke to fit between the two of them.
Luke lay on his side, so that he was facing his mother. Abby reached out her hand, taking Luke’s and then squeezed it.
“I miss her so much,” Luke whispered.
“Yeah,” Abby said nodding and re-closing her eyes, “me too.”
