Thanks guys! New update!! ;DChapter 32 Abby splashed her face with cold water and took a long deep breath. Then she combed her hair with her fingers and wiped her shirt with her hands, trying to keep it from looking like it was wrinkled. “I can’t believe this,” Abby murmured, “how do we do this?” Her eyes looked to Luka through the mirror. He shook his head. “I don’t know,” he told her, his eyes filled with sadness. He came up to her side and rested his head on her shoulder. “But let’s just focus on getting through this one step at a time, okay?” “Okay,” Abby said softly. Then she turned, and looked Luka in the eyes. “I was with Dave Mallucci,” Abby confessed, her words shaky. “I didn’t do anything with him….but I thought about it. I was…I know this isn’t the time or the place. But I don’t want to lie to you anymore Luka. I don’t want to lose you. I can’t lose you, too.” Luka stood shocked, but quickly gained composure. “I don’t want to lose you, either,” he reassured her. “Oh god, Luka,” Abby cried. “How did we get here? How will we get past this? How will we do this without her?” Tears came down her cheeks in fresh waves, and Luka pulled her into his embrace, whispering sweet nothings into her ear. “Are you ready?” Luka asked her a few moments later, when Abby’s tears had slowed. Abby shook her head and she held onto Luka tight. “No,” she whispered in his ear. “But when will we ever be?” “I don’t know,” he answered her. “Let’s just go.” xxxxxxxxxxx The room was quiet, not anything that Lexy would have liked. She loved noise. Abby quickly went to the television and turned it on. As she turned and saw her daughter, a tight gasp filled her lips. So many wires were connected to her daughter, and she was completely still. Abby walked over to her and ran her fingers through Lexy’s dark locks. “She looks like she’s sleeping,” Abby whispered, sitting down next to her daughter. Luka came beside her and nodded his head. “Yeah, but more still than usual,” Luka lightly joked, happy to get a small chuckle from Abby. “You’re right, she’s usually all over the place, Lexy can’t sit still for more than a minute,” Abby said with a small smile, before tears filled her eyes again. “Oh baby girl,” Abby cried taking her hand and stroking it gently. “I love you so much. Your daddy and I love you more than anything.” “Yes, we do.” Luka agreed, blinking away the tears. “Luka,” Abby whimpered looking over to him for support. He gave her a weak smile, but Abby could tell that it wasn’t meeting his eye. “Sorry for barging in,” Kerry told them, truly apologetic, “but I need to speak with you for a moment. Only a moment, and then you can go back to Lexy. I just thought it would be better to do it now than later.” “Okay.” xxxxxxxxx “We have a little bit of time, but I wanted to know what you guys wanted to do,” Kerry said slowly. “Wanted to do?” Luka questioned. “With…with Lexy.” “We want,” Abby began looking to Luka, searching to see if he would agree with her. “We want to donate her organs,” Abby said questioningly, and was glad that Luka nodded in agreement. “But before we do, I want to say goodbye, and I think…I think that the other kids should too. They need to say goodbye, too.” Abby said nodding and wiping her tears with her fingertips. “Okay,” Kerry said slowly. Then she gave them a small nod, before walking away. Abby closed her eyes and shook her head, before she whispered, “It wasn’t supposed to be like this.”

Thanks guys, new update!! ;DChapter 33 “I was scared,” Abby whispered. It was late and she and Luka lay in the bed next to Lexy. Even though it was late and neither had talked in sometime, Abby knew that Luka was still awake. They had decided to wait and tell the children in the morning, they deserved one more night of ignorance bliss. “What?” Luka questioned her. Abby turned so that she could look Luka in the eyes, and just looking at his sad face, caused more tears to fall down her face. Luka lovingly wiped them away and kissed her gently on the cheek. “What were you scared about?” “After I lost Leah,” she told him quietly, “I was so scared about everything. And I wanted you to hate me, Luka. You were so kind and so patient, but you had loved her from the start, and I had just….” Abby sighed. “It was my body. Maybe the way I felt about it from the beginning caused it to happen. And that scared me.” “Ab’s, it wasn’t your fault,” Luka reassured her. “It was no body’s fault. It was just one of those things that happened. You loved Leah just as much as I did, and you would have done anything to save her. Wouldn’t you? Just like Lexy. You would have given your life for any of our children, right?” “Yes?” “And Leah?” “Of course,” Abby said nodding, “but…” Luka placed his finger over her mouth telling her to stop. Abby closed her eyes. “Abby, it wasn’t your fault. Do you understand? I’ll say it a million times if I need to, but what happened to Leah was not your fault.” Luka told her strongly. Abby let out a shaky breath, before nodding her head. They lay again in silence, the sound of the ventilator breathing for Lexy making the only sound. The sound caused Abby’s body to shake. Luka picked up on this and wrapped his arms around her. “What about the children?” Abby questioned with a trembling voice. “How are we going to tell them about Lexy?” “We will just tell them the truth; explain to them about the whole situation. They won’t understand, but who does? It’ll be hard, but together we’ll get through this as long as we do it together. Not if we’re apart.” “But what about Luke?” Abby asked. “He’s going to blame himself.” “It wasn’t his fault,” Luka stated simply, taking her shaking hand. “We’ll tell him…” “A million times if we have to,” Abby finished. Abby began shaking her head and looked Luka directly in the eyes, “I can’t do this Luka. I can’t lose her.” Luka closed his eyes; he was close to tears. “I know, but Ab’s, she’s already gone. That girl in that bed isn’t Lexy. She’s brain dead. She isn’t the girl that loves Tinkerbell and sings in the shower and still watches the Disney Channel. Lexy is already gone, Abby.” Abby nodded slowly before speaking, “Why did she get in the car with that boy?” Abby questioned, before bursting into tears. Her sobs were strong and they rocked the bed back and forth. Luka quickly brought her into his arms and held her tight. Her knees pinched into his stomach, and her face was in his chest. He brought her even closer and placed his head into her hair, and began crying along with her.

Chapter 34 The Next Morning“Mommy!” Lily yelled as she ran down the stairs at the Carter house. Her hair flew behind her, as she opened her arms and wrapped them around her mother. Abby offered her a weak smile, before searching for the other children. “Where are Luke, Lana, and Lee?” Luka questioned, while he walked up to Abby and placed his hand on her shoulder. “They are in the living room watching cartoons,” Lily told them. “Well, Lana and Lee are. I’m not sure about Luke.” “Lily, baby, go on to the living room with the others. We’ll be there in a moment.” Abby told her little one. She patted Lily’s head, before she skipped into the living room. Watching Lily’s innocence, made Abby begin to cry again. She didn’t know if she could do this. Susan made her way down the stairs. Abby looked up and began wiping her cheeks, trying to keep herself from losing it again. When Susan came to the bottom of the stairs, her arms immediately wrapped around Abby’s frame. At this, Abby lost her resolve again and began crying lightly into her shoulder. She felt Susan’s hand rub her back gently, as she patiently allowed Abby to cry. Susan looked up to Luka and gave him a small smile, “How are you holding up?” She asked him as she continued to rub Abby’s back. Luka shrugged. Abby pulled up suddenly and began wiping her cheeks again. “Where’s Luke?” Abby asked her friend. “We want to tell him first.” “Um, he’s outside on the porch. He hasn’t said much. I don’t think he slept at all last night,” Susan informed them. Abby took in a jagged breath and reached for Luka’s hand. He quickly took her hand and they both walked toward the back porch. Abby’s free hand came up to her chest when she saw Luke sitting alone on the porch. His back was to her, but by his stance, Abby could tell that he was worried. It was lightly drizzling outside, but Abby knew that he didn’t care. Luke had never minded the rain. “Luke,” Abby said softly as she opened the door, and both she and Luka walked onto the porch. “Don’t you want to come inside, baby? It’s raining.” “Is she alright?” Luke questioned, as he turned and ignored his mother’s question. “Let’s sit,” Luka told his son, Luke shook his head. “No, I just want to know how Lexy is,” he told his parents point blank. “Is she okay?” “Luke,” Abby began, but she choked on her words, as a sob rose in her throat. Luka squeezed her hand, letting her know that he would tell Luke. “Luke, Lexy is….” Luka paused, “she’s gone, buddy.” Luke shook his head in disbelief and began walking backwards. Abby walked up to him, trying to bring him to her, but he walked faster. “No,” he whispered, “but…. No.” He continually shook his head, as he slowly took a seat on the bench behind him, placing his head into his hands. “This is all my fault, I was supposed to watch her. I was supposed to…” “No,” Luka told him strongly, manoeuvring himself so that he was almost on his knees and under Luke so that he could see him in the eye. “Luke, listen to me, this was not your fault. She sneaked away. This is not your fault.” “But,” Luke cried. “I’m her big brother, I was supposed to watch out for her.” Abby quickly sat down beside him and pulled him into her strong arms. She whispered sweet nothings in his ear as she stroked his hair with her hand. “This wasn’t your fault,” she told him again. “You are a wonderful big brother, Luke. A wonderful brother. Lexy couldn’t have asked for a better one. It just happened baby, and it’s going to be hard. But, baby, we’ll pull through this. We’ll pull through this for Lexy.” “It’s not fair,” Luke murmured. “No it’s not.”

Chapter 35 “I don’t understand,” Lee said, his eyebrows knitted together as he was chewing on the corners of his thumbs, “Why can’t she wake up?” His questions were purely innocent, and Abby took a deep breath before answering him. “Her brain is dead, sweetheart,” Abby told him yet again. Lana seemed to be the only one of the three that understood, because she was sitting in her father’s lap, lightly crying into his shirt. “She isn’t there anymore.” “But why are you going to give away her heart and organics?” Lily questioned her parents. “Why don’t you get someone to give her a new brain?” “Organs, Lily, we’re donating her organs so that she can help someone who needs them. You can’t get a new brain, baby, if something happens to it, then that’s it,” Luka explained, as he rubbed Lana’s back. “But why?” Lily questioned, as tears began running down her cheeks. “I don’t want to give her organs away. I want her to keep them and I want her to wake up.” Abby covered her mouth with her hand and took in a small breath, to try and keep the tears from falling down her face. This was too hard; she was quickly realizing. She didn’t know how to do this- how to explain this to them. “She’s not going to,” Luka intervened. “Lily, Lee, your sister is gone. She will never wake up, even though we love her. She’s going to heaven.” Luka told them simply as he wiped away the tears cascading down his face. Abby felt Luka lightly pull on her shoulder, to bring her to him. She rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes. At the HospitalAfter they had all gone home and changed, they went to the hospital. The six of them slowly made their way into Lexy’s room. It was silent, again. The whole room gave Abby an eerie feeling. Lily let go of her mother’s hand and walked over to Lexy. She crawled up onto the bed and placed her hand on Lexy’s face. Shaking her head, she looked over to her parents. “She’s just sleeping,” Lily told them. “Right, Lexy? Just wake up,” she said lightly poking Lexy’s shoulder. Abby took in a jagged breath, and Luka walked over to the bed, pulling Lily off of it and into his arms. “No,” Luka told her. “Remember what we said,” he questioned Lily as he pushed back a stray hair. “She won’t wake up. She’s gone, baby.” Lily’s chin was trembling, as her father placed her back on the bed so that she could say goodbye.

Thanks guys, here's a new chapter!! ;DChapter 36 Lily scooted herself up so that her face could reach Lexy’s. She bent over and whispered something that no one else could hear. Then she pushed back Lexy’s hair before kissing her on the forehead. “I love you,” Lily whispered audibly, before leaping off the bed and wrapping her arms around her father. Luka picked her back up and held her close. Rocking her back and forth, as she cried into his shoulder. Around Abby were Lee’s arms. His head was pressed into her back, and he held on to her so tightly that Abby thought that she wouldn’t be able to breathe. She turned, trying to see his face, but he buried his head even further. “I don’t want to see her,” he murmured. Abby lightly rubbed his arms with the tips of her fingers and swayed lightly back and forth. “That’s fine, baby, whatever you want,” Abby informed him. Lana, then, slowly made her way to Lexy’s bedside. She, without talking, took Lexy’s hand and placed it on her heart and closed her eyes. Then she let go of her sister’s hand and bent over, kissing her cheek. And then just as slowly as she had walked to her sister’s bed, she was now back to her mother. “Luke?” Abby questioned, looking back at the door, where Luke had remained. His eyes were fixed on Lexy’s frame and his eyes were full of remorse. He made small steps toward Lexy’s bed and stopped every few steps. When he reached her bed, he bent over and rested his forehead on Lexy’s. It was something they had done as little kids, a sort of greeting or hug with one another. At that moment, Abby was reminded of them when they were young and planning away to get their parents to take them to the Dilly Hut. She could imagine the both of them sitting at the island in the kitchen, their faces full of matching smiles. Both of them working together and being best friends. Abby let out a sharp sigh, as Luke pulled away. He pulled Lily out of Luka’s arms and led the twins out of the room, so that Abby and Luka would have their final goodbye. Luka pulled a chair next to Lexy and took her hand, while Abby remained frozen in her current position. Luka gave his daughter a small smile, and pushed a stray curl off of her face. “You always were stubborn,” Luka told her with a weak chuckle. “Even before you were born. You never would let us know if you were a boy or a girl. I don’t know if you inherited that more from your mother or me. Probably your mother.” He looked over to Abby, who was looking up at the ceiling trying to keep the tears from coming again. “We love you, baby. So much. We would do anything for you.” Tears began cascading down Luka’s face as he clutched onto Lexy’s small hand and placed his head in the nook of her arm. He remained there for a few moments, remembering everything he could about Lexy. He wanted to remember those times more than remembering her here in the hospital bed. Slowly, he got up. He kissed Lexy on the cheek, before moving toward Abby. Abby’s eyes were closed because she realized that it was now her turn. With quick steps she walked to her daughter. She traced her face with the tips of her fingers, as she had when Lexy was first born. A sob escaped her lips, but no tears came. Placing her hands on Lexy’s shoulders, she bent down and placed her ear over her heart. She could hear the light flutter of her heartbeat and could feel it. Closing her eyes, she gripped onto Lexy’s arms tighter. Abby could hear the door opening, but she didn’t move. She just tightened her grasp, even tighter, on Lexy’s arms. “I’m sorry,” Abby could hear Kerry say, “But we need to….” “No,” Abby whispered and then louder, “No.” “Abby….” Abby refused to open her eyes at Luka’s voice. She felt bodies move forward, but she just held on to her daughter even tighter. “Abby,” Kerry told her, placing her hand on her shoulder. Abby shrugged it away. “No,” Abby said again. “I can’t do this. I’m not ready.”
