Okay....so now I feel better about blowing the laundry off and going to see it on Tuesday....when my family is busy...elsewhere. Unless you think they would have shiped a different version to the straight laced midwest?? Did you see yourself in any of the crowd scenes???

And second, how has no one mentioned the love scene? Not only hot, but hysterical. I mentioned that one scene was reminiscent of another scene she had done in another movie. So that may have been a little cryptic but I didn't want to spoil it for anyone. I wasn't sure how much detail I could give away. People tend to jump down your throat for the slightest thing around here. But since you said it, Hello-Diggers much? And when he threw her off, that was funny.

OOOOooooOOOOOOoooooOOOOOhhhh....I know the scene you are talking about. Guessed as much from your 'cryptic' clue. Heh. So much for adding 'class' to the flick. My 14 year old son has an gosh awful cold brewing. I was debating what I would do if he needs to stay home on Tuesday. (It's the LAW in our house that you are not allowed to be sick on the days that Mom works.) Mulling over taking him to see the movie with me. Guess not. Sigh. BUT, he has a trumpet solo in the band concert that night so he told me he HAS to go to school.

The difference between this scene and Diggers is that she is wearing clothes and it's very darkly lit. Don't know if that changes anything in your decision to let your son tag along. Thankgoodness for the trumpet solo. He seems pretty dedicated to going to school no matter what. What a good kid.

Don't see myself as being a bad mom if I took him. He is just generally embarassed at this pint to be watching/talking about that kind of stuff with his Mom. My DAUGHTER on the other hand....heh. Let's just say the HE thinks "what is talked about in Health class, STAYS in health class.." Yahoo movies puts 'Semi Pro' as the #1 movie for the weekend...bringing in $15,000,000.

i, personally, am a huge fan of will ferrell and cannot wait to see this movie. most likely i'll be going with my brother to see it. and actually with all this talk about will ferrell and maura tierney, it made me realize a completely ridiculous connection. both of them have sang the song afternoon delight on camera. will in anchorman and maura in er. just thought i'd throw that in there

OOoooookay.....so I went in with the lowest of the lowest expectations. I thought I would enjoy nothing but Maura in this flick and came out ith a grin on my face. Will's 'Jackie Moon' had that same innocent quality as his character in 'Elf' - which is one of our family holiday favorites. He was cute rather than the obnoxious that I expected. Loved the other people on the team in their support of him. Maura was beautiful....and a good foil for Woody's character. I really thought the 'Kyle' character was pretty useless. Woody and Maura could have carried their subplot easily without him...and maybe we would have found out a bit more about them. (Were Kyle and Lynne supposed to be married or just living together?? Sometimes I miss dialog but I don't recall anything tin indicate a marriage.) I don't think the idea of him accepting a trade to the Flint Tropics because she was there came through strongly enough.
Anyway, I over rode my 'mom guilt' to see this flick at a weekday matinee - ALONE - and thoroughly enjoyed myself. There were three high school boys sitting three rows in front of me and avoiding me after one glance back. I seriously think I had one of them in Kindergarten. Hee. There were three others in the theater as well....all men. LOL

Larue, I'm so glad you liked it! I have to admit that the language was even a bit foul for ME (I was cringing) and was sure you'd burst into flames at it... I think it all would have been a lot better without so much cursing, but whatever...

The part that makes me smile everytime I think about it is when Dukes is asking Jackie for a smaller check. "It's written in glitter, man"

Maybe the link had been post in another place, but here is an interview of Maura on Jimmy Kimmel, I just watched it www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce5qMdae64Y&NR=1the interview is in two parts she's talking about Semi-pro, the return of ER and her housekeeper Douglas, as usual she's very very funny and still talking with her hands and so on by the way, she seems to be blond here, whereas last week she was a brunette, how can she do that ??

Found this in a review via my Maura Google Alerts. LOL....very funny and VERY true.
There is a subplot involving former NBA player Monix (Woody Harrelson), who spends the film trying to win back his former girlfriend Lynn (ER's Maura Tierney) while taking over coaching duties for the Tropics. Harrelson and Tierney must have had a "no stupid humor" clause in their contracts, as they more-or-less escape with their dignity intact.
