Truthfully, zelda, there wasn’t anything in my post for you to agree or disagree with, unless you'd like to count my aforementioned love for this story. I said absolutely nothing along the lines of disliking the fic because of the mistake, quite the contrary, in fact. As I stated in my previous post, I adore this story, and it was never my intention for my post to come off as a flame. If you reread it, you can see that it was anything but. I even mentioned that she need not change her story to fix the error, for it is neither here nor there. And I don't think you were being rude at all, I just didn't see a reason to get defensive. The last thing I wanted was for my post to come off as insulting, and if that is the case, I'm particularly sorry.
Aside from all that, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, this is a lovely fic! Great update!
xx Laurie

Great update! xx Laurie Laurie, I'm really sorry if I hurt your feelings. It's just that I'm so grateful to you, writers, who possess a talent I'll never have, and give me such a great pleasure when I read your stories, that I don't care if it sticks to reality or not. But you are damn right: when I reread your post, it's obvious that you love this fic, and you wrote very nice comments. I truly apologize. Last time I post fast and furious like this! Mea culpa!

I really, really appreciate that. Apologies are so few and far between on fansites, and it's a wonderful change to be able to disregard a misunderstanding without the normally accompanying theatrics.

Chapter 11: “Damage Done”
Abby climbed into the steamy bathtub and gently slid down into the warm water. As she laid there with her head resting against the cool ceramic tub and her achy muscles buried under water, Abby let the weight of the world slip from her shoulders. She closed her eyes and began to stretch her neck by rotating her head back and forth on her shoulders. She thought about the long week that had just passed her by. It had been emotional and exhausting, but somehow, she’d survived. Normally, Abby would have dreaded having a day off, for fear that her selfish decisions would come back to haunt her, but now, now she was too tired to think about much of anything.
Abby smiled as a now familiar face came to her mind. She tried to fight it, but it seemed almost impossible. That faced belonged to Luka. She wasn’t sure why, but there was just something about him that made her go weak in the knees. Was it the way his dark brown hair fell over his right eye brow and into his eye? Was it the way he looked down at her with those big, wide, beautiful eyes? “Maybe it’s the accent,” Abby reasoned with herself. Yes, she was definitely a sucker for the accent without a doubt. No matter what the reason, in one of the worst weeks of Abby’s entire life, Luka had gotten through to her. Just seeing him standing in the distance made her smile and for Abby, that was something special.
There was a knock on the door in the distance that snapped Abby out of her fairytale daydream and back to reality. She opened her eyes and pushed her body up from it’s previous reclining position. Abby groaned as she leaned over the side of the bathtub and grabbed a towel and her bath robe. “Just a minute,” she called loudly as she quickly toweled off her damp hair and headed towards the door. As she opened the door, Abby felt her jaw drop and her eyes widen at the unexpected visitor that stood before her. “Hi, Abby,” the woman said. Abby opened the door further and stared straight ahead. “Maggie,” she said. “What are you doing here?” Maggie held out a shopping bag and handed it to Abby. “I baked some blueberry muffins,” Maggie said, extending her arm in Abby’s direction. Abby bit her lip before she reached out and reluctantly took the bag from Maggie’s hand. Without a word, Abby carried the bag over to the kitchen table and set it down. Maggie slowly walked into the apartment and closed the door behind her. “What are you doing here?” Abby asked, but Maggie simply crossed her arms and glanced around the tiny apartment. “This place is small,” she said. “A two bedroom would have been a little nicer.” Abby rolled her eyes. “Well, I’ve got bills to pay,” she said. “And besides, with work and going to school, I’ll probably never be here anyway.”
Maggie leaned against the kitchen counter and looked around the kitchen and Abby stood a few feet in front of her and crossed her arms. “How did you find me?” Abby asked. “I know you didn’t just stop by to bring me blueberry muffins.” Maggie took a few steps towards Abby. “Can’t a mother just stop by and see her daughter?” She asked. Abby let out a deep sigh and rolled her eyes. “You’ve never ‘just stopped by,’ Maggie,” Abby said. Maggie sighed as she unsnapped her purse and reached inside. A moment later, she pulled out a brown manila envelope and handed it to Abby. She looked away as she took the envelope from her mother’s hand. She recognized her own handwriting written in black pen on the front of the envelope. “How did you get this?” Abby asked, she felt the anger beginning to well in her chest. Maggie walked to the kitchen table and sat down. “Richard sent them to me,” she said simply. Abby let out a groan. “Why would he send this to you?” Abby asked. “We work in the same building. Maggie shrugged. “Maybe he thought you’d move back home with me,” she said. Abby threw the envelope down onto the old table and plopped down in the chair across from Maggie. “He knows I wouldn’t move back in with you,” Abby said. “Well, I am your mother,” Maggie added. Abby looked across the table at her mother. “You don’t get it,” she said. “Just forget it.”
Abby stared down at the sealed envelope sitting in front of her on the table. She tried to fight the urge to open it, but after a moment, she could no longer resist. She ripped open the sealed envelope and pulled out the pile of papers she had place inside a little more then a week ago. She noticed the envelopes containing the furniture, phone and rent bills had been neatly opened. Inside, Richard had included a check for ½ of each of the bills. “Wow, maybe he does have a heart,” Abby muttered as she put that pile of papers onto the table. Her hands were shaky and clammy as she looked down at the folded divorce papers in her hands. She unfolded them slowly and then banged the papers down onto the table in anger and frustration. “That son of a bitch!” Abby yelled. “He didn’t sign the goddamn papers!” Maggie reached over and grabbed the divorce papers from their place in front of Abby. She looked at them quickly and then turned back in Abby’s direction. “Maybe he is giving you a chance to reconsider,” Maggie said. Abby ripped the papers from her mother’s hands and stood up from the table. “Reconsider?” Abby asked. “Reconsider when I found him in bed, our bed, with another woman? Jesus, you really are crazy!” Maggie stood up and walked into the kitchen, then she took two muffins from the shopping bag and placed one in front of Abby. “I’m better now, Abby,” she said. “Really, I am.” Abby rolled her eyes and pushed the muffin away. “Bringing me a muffin doesn’t make up for the past 30 years, Mom,” Abby said. “The damage is already done.” Maggie sighed and shook her head. “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me that you were going back to medical school,” Maggie said, changing the subject. Abby laughed sarcastically. “It’s not like we talk on a day to day basis or anything,” Abby said. “Hell, when was the last time I even saw you?” Maggie shook her head. “I’ve been getting my act together, Abby,” her mother said. “I’m trying to make things right.” Abby shook her head. “It’s a little too late for that,” she said.

Chapter 12: “Someone to Blame”
Every time Maggie came around, Abby felt a dull but deep aching in the pit of her stomach. It wasn’t that she didn’t love her mother, because she did. Doesn’t every child have to love their mother? Abby knew that it wasn’t Maggie’s fault that she was bi-polar. Sure, along the way she had made some pretty stupid decisions and done some pretty crazy things, but she was sick. “I’ll never be able to fix her,” Abby mumbled. The burden of taking care of Maggie and Eric had always been a tremendous burden for Abby, bringing her down and holding her back from so many things that she wanted to do and accomplish. She wanted to go to the prom and have friends over on Friday night for sleepovers. She wanted to go to medical school, to fall in love and get married. But the main problem for Abby was that she didn’t know how to love. She didn’t have any basis for comparison. Maggie had certainly not been a fit role model in the love department. In fact, Abby didn’t even know how to love herself, let alone the proper way to love another.
Maggie was the reason Abby had moved away. She left her with no other choice. If she didn’t learn to move on and live her own life, she knew that she would never be able to be the person that she hoped to one day be. When Maggie was around, the world stopped and life as Abby knew it was put on hold. The moment that Maggie came back into the picture, Abby felt the weight of the world on her shoulders once again. It weighed her down until one day it was gone, leaving her battered and broken beyond repair. It’s next arrival would come at the worst possible moment, and then without a sounds, it would swallow Abby whole. She felt awful about resenting her mother, her brother, her family, but they chaos of her childhood left Abby scarred and damaged to the point of no return. They had cost her so much and taken so much of the heart that she once hoped to give to someone she would love one day. Now, she had little or nothing left to give. When Maggie came around, she created a tornado that came in full force, sweeping Abby up into it’s whirlwind and then throwing her back drained and empty. Abby loved her mother and sometimes, she missed her so much. But Abby held so much resentment in her heart that it became nearly impossible to be happy whenever Maggie was around. Abby was lost, empty and incomplete and with no one to blame. Most often, she took it out on herself, after all, she had no one else to blame.
ONLY ONE she's got a pretty smile it covers up the poison that she hides she walks around in circles in my head waiting for a chance to break me a chance to take me down now I see the burden you gave me is too much to carry too much to bury inside I guess you're the only one that nobody changes I guess you're the only one left standing when everything else goes down you're still the only one yeah you're still the only one
it's all shallow and all so appealing now I'm up to my ankles and I'm drowning anyway in a sea of sarcastic faces familiar places everything looks quite the same here it's all confusingly amusing bitter and tainted the picture you painted to me I guess you're the only one that nobody changes guess you're the only one left standing when everything else goes down you're still the only one who will never change faces I guess you're the only one left standing when everything else goes down just cause it's all in your head doesn't mean it has to be in mine don't believe what you said still can't get it out of my mind I've tried to find myself an approval I've already been there already done that it got me nowhere it brought me nothing but a good place to hide in no one to confide in now
I guess you're the only one that nobody changes I guess you're the only one that will never change faces I guess you're the only one
