Last week the girls got graduated from high school and tomorrow I’m taking Susen to New-York.
“Mom can I come to? I’m her friend.” Abigail nags the day before we leave. “No. This is something she has to do on her own.” I say for the thousands time. “But your going with her so she’s not on her own. Please mom?” She begs again. “I said no Abigail. Come on you’re a grown up now don’t act like a 10 year old will you.” I walk away from her so that she can’t beg or nag any longer. “Right well I’ll go alone then.” She says and slams her door. Fine, why did nobody told me that teenagers could be a pain in the ass before I started thinking of kids.
The doorbell rings and I smile. It has to be Neela with Ray and their twin. They moved to England 3 years ago and just once in a while they come over to visit Ray his family and their friends. “Coming!” I yell when I’m close to the door. When I open it I see the twin standing their smiling. “Hey you two! You’ve been growing fast! Where’s your mom and dad?” I ask them. “Their parking the car.” Kim says. “Right come in and undo your coats.” I say and so they do. Just a minute later I see Neela and Ray walking towards the house, I smile. They both look great. “Susan! Finally.” Neela says and hugs me. I hug and kiss Ray before we enter the house.
“Girls Neela and Ray are in.” I yell from downstairs. Within seconds they both are downstairs greeting Neela, Ray, Kim and Jared. We talk for hours while the girls watch and play with the twins.
“So how is Susen doing?” Neela asks when they are out for a walk in the park. “Fine. She has her moments but she’s doing fine. Were going to New-York tomorrow. She wanted to visit Luka his grave.” I tell her. “I’m glad she’s still doing fine. I’ve always been scared that she might had the same tricks as her mom.” Neela says. “Thank god no. Well sometimes she shows some signs but not that regular. Last week she had one. She thought she was old enough to live all by herself in New-York and already packed her bags ready to leave.” I say and try to smile it away. “That’s nasty. Did she ever talked?” Ray asks out of the sudden. “Not really. But she told me that she missed them a couple of days ago. But, like Abby, she isn’t much of a talker. She just had this on little world she hides herself in and shows us the happy Susen. But I can see when she’s in pain.” I say. And it’s true. She really lies a lot about how she’s feeling, I can see it in those light hazel eyes of her. “I think you’ve been the best for her Susan. What would have happened if she became one of the state or worse a foster kid.” Ray says, trying to convince me that I did the right thing. “Your right. But sometimes it’s like Abby is sitting there looking at me and on these moments I want to grab her and never let go again.” I say when I feel that this conversation has to end before I burst into tears. “I can imagine that Susan. And what about Abigail and Micheal?” Neela asks me, think she noticed my feelings. “Abigail is still in puberty and I pray it will end pretty soon. She’s sweet but can be a pain in the ass when she has her moments you know. She’s going to attend Harvard Law school! Micheal is fine. Cute, happy and full of spirit.” I say with proud. “Law? I thought she wanted to go to Med school?” Neela asks me. “Yeah but she didn’t pass her science so no med school. But she’s happy with Law school. Don’t know why but I think this suits her better.” I say when I fill the coffee cups again. “Glad to hear she’s happy with it.” Neela says just before the girls walk in. “Hey. Mom can we take them to McDonalds?” Abigail asks me with her sobby eyes. “Gail we had an agreement didn’t we?” I tell her, we made the agreement that she wasn’t aloud to eat French friets and burgers for a month. “But mom this is special.” She begs, again. I’m not in the mood to argue with her. “Ok. Go before I change my mind.” I say and Abigail turns around and walks away.
Neela and Ray asked if they could stay the night, I told them they could stay as long as they wanted and even Susen said that we could visit Luka later on in summer. Right now Abigail, Susen and Neela are upstairs talking in Susen her room. It was Abby her room when she lived a short time with us, Susen wanted it when she came here so it’s hers now.
“Suz?” Chuck says when he enters the kitchen. “Yes” Susan replies. “If Neela and Ray are staying here for a few days maybe we can go out for dinner, with the two of us.” Chuck says and gives Susan a smile. “Hm that sounds fantastic! And afterwards we can go to a hotel and spend the night there.” Susan says while Chuck kisses her cheek. “You can read minds.” Chuck says right before Ray walk in. “Sorry.” Ray says. “Don’t bother we are used to no privacy.” Chuck says and opens the fridge. “I know what it is Chuck. With the twins they wake up on turns you know. Every hour the other.” Ray complains. “I’ll leave you two alone. I’m going to watch a movie or so.” Susan says and walks out of the kitchen.
In the living room Susan pulls out a old home made video, not knowing what is on it, she puts it in and sees the old ER. It’s a tape from several parties in the ER and it looks so old fashioned. “Ray, Chuck come over here I found something!” Susan yells. Both men walk in and start laughing when they see the young Susan. “Thanks guys.” Susan says and stomps Chuck in his stomach.
They see the young ming-na, now Deb, talking with Benton and Susan spots Mark. “Look guys that’s Mark!” And she points out at him. “Great Doctor Mark Greene.” Ray says, although he never met him, he knows who Mark Greene is. “O look who do we see there.” Chuck says. Susan looks back and there she is, Abby talking to Haleh about something and minutes later they here her sing. “God she wasn’t the best singer in the world.” Ray says and the three of them start laughing. With her whole soul Abby signs a Christmas carol and now and then the camera is pointed at Haleh who looks like she has been eating a citron. “Susen should watch this…it’s her mom.” Susan says all of the sudden. Silence fills the room cause Susen never saw Abby like this, she never saw how goofy her mom could be. “I’ll get them.” Ray says and Susan stops the VCR.
“Susen, if you want to stop tell us.” Susan says before she hits the play button again. “Right. But my mom is truly on this tape?” Susen asks. “O yeah and I think your dad too.” Chuck tells her. “Cool I’ve never seen them doing their job.” Susen says. Neela starts de VCR and they watch the first couple of minutes. Then Abby shows up. “Wow.” Abigail exclaims. “Really wow she’s beautiful!” Susen says when she sees Abby. Then Abby starts singing the Christmas carol again. “God it sounds just as horrible as you Susen.” Abigail says to her best friend. “Thanks.” Susen says and smiles at her. The girl lights up every time she notices Abby on screen. Then Luka appears. “That’s dad!” Susen says when she can only see his hands. “How do you know?” Susan asks her. “Well look closely at his fingers and you will notice he’s missing one fingernail.” Susen says and points at his ring finger from his left hand. “You’re right.” Neela says when Luka is fully on screen. "Look at him he's so handsome!" Abigail says. "I can imagine what mom saw in him." Susen replies. I can see she enjoys the tape. Then we enter the christmas party were Luka and Abby shared their first kiss. "Aw look at you mom you look so nice!" Abigail says when the camera is pointed at Abby and me. Abby laughs and I see the same smile as I witness every day with Susen. "Susen did you saw that smile?" I ask her. "Yeah I've the same." Susen says proud.
At the end of the tape Susen knows so much more about her mom and dad. We talked together about it when the rest was already in bed. She told me that she noticed that it wasn't that painful to watch the tape and that she wanted to watch more, so tomorrow were going to watch my wedding-movie.
Susen goes to bed and I do the dishes in the dishwasher and make my way up. But before I head to bed I check on Susen, she's sleeping.

Aw shit your right......this is the update I needed to post...
Susen POV. Watching that movie made me feel happy. Happy because now I know how my mom and dad were before they moved to New-York but sad cause now I realize that I miss two really warm-hearted and great people.
When I saw my mom on that tape it was like I saw myself, painful cause since that movie I miss her most. I remember dad better then my mom, she’s a bit blurry I can’t remember how she smelt and how she moved. I think of her a lot since I saw the movie three days ago it’s like I want to get to know her but I don’t know how. Nights I’ve been wondering how I could get to know her better and my only solution was to talk with aunt Susan, Neela, Ray, Chuck, John and all her other old friends.
I want to know how much she loved dad, I want to know how she walked, I want to know how she acted, I want to know what she smelt like, I want to know who her favourite singer was, her favourite food, her favourite drink and all these other tiny things which don’t matter for others but for me they are everything I have.
It’s now 2 in the morning and I know it’s some were around 10 in Paris. I’m going to give it a try and I’ll start with John Carter, what I’ve heard he and my mom were a item for a few months so he must have something to tell me about her. Should he even know who I am?
I dial the number and get an connection. “Kem.” I hear a lady say. “Bonjour, Is Dr. Carter around?” I say. “I’ll put you through. Who can I say is calling?” She asks. “Uh. Miss Lockhart.” I answer not knowing why I used my mom last name, maybe deep down inside that name will make answer my call. “John Carter here.” I hear after a few seconds. “Hello Dr. Carter, my name is Susen Kovac.” I say stammering. “Hello Susen Kovac. How can I help you?” John says. I don’t know what to say and so I say nothing. “Susen? You’re the daughter of Abby and Luka aren’t you?” John asks me. “Yes. It’s stupid to call you I know. Sorry for bothering.” I say and hope he will put the phone down. “How are you? You’re not bothering I’m happy to hear something. Why are you calling at this time it’s in the middle of the night at yours.” He says. “I’m fine thanks. Well I wanted to know a few things about my mom.” I tell him still having trouble to let the words flow out of my mouth. “What is it that you want to know about her?” John asks. I sigh, I’m happy he wants to talk with me and help me in one way or another. “How was my mom as a person? I mean not as a mom or as a friend but just as individual. How did she smell? How was your relationship with her?” I ask John. “Well that’s so much to tell. You know you’re mom was special. Really special. For every one in the ER she was special. Everybody liked her. But maybe it would be better if we talked in real life Susen. You could visit us in Paris or we could visit you in New-York.” John offers. “Well I would like to go to Paris but I’ve to discuss that with my guardian.” I say knowing aunt Susan is never going to let me fly all the way to Paris. “Well if you give me her name and phone number I could contact her and discuss it with her.” John offers. “That would be great. Her name is Susan Lewis the phone number is the same as I use now.” I tell him. “Dr. Susan Lewis?” John asks me. “Yeah..do you know her?” I ask. “Sure don’t you know that? We worked together and we had a little romance before I got the hots for your mom.” He says, I smile I can’t imagine that mom and aunt Susan could love the same man. “O ok. Maybe that will help a little. Thanks Dr. Carter. I got to go know before I wake someone.” I say. “Your more then welcome Susen. Say hi to Susan and Chuck for me. Night.” John says and puts down the phone.
Very delightful that there is someone out there that could help me with answering the questions I have. In the kitchen I take a glass of coke and then I see the lights turn on in the hallway. “Susie q?” Aunt Susan says. “Yeah?” I ask her. “Why did dr. Carter just called me?” She asks. I feel that I’m blushing and I don’t know where to look. “I…I called him.” I stammer. “He told me. And he also told me that you don’t need to worry about going to Paris cause he’s flying over tomorrow. Susen what the hell do you think you’re doing?” Susan says. “I just want to get know my mom better. I thought that if I talked to all her old friends it would help.” I say looking down to the kitchen floor. I can feel her eyes burning in my head. “Susen you could have asked me and then I would have contact John and asked him. Now he’s rushing to come over. What are you’re other plans Susen?” She asks me. I feel so little. “Nothing.” I say. “Susen.” She says and then I notice she came closer. Now she’s holding me and I let go my tears. For the first time in years I’m grieving over the loss of my mom.

I really hope you all like it cause I needed to bring her back....if it's no good to the fic just tell me and I will delete it and write a new part. I will tell you when the fic is over why I needed to do this. ...................................................................................................... We carry a secret. “Susan wake up it’s almost 7.” Chuck says while he shakes me shoulder. “Just one more hour Chuck.” I answer sleepy. “The girls are already down and Micheal is already on the road.” Chuck tells me. I can’t open my eyes, last night I couldn’t get back to sleep after Carter called and after my chat with Susen. “Come on Suz.” Chuck says and pulls away the sheets. “Your mean.” I say to him and put my legs on the cold floor. After my shower and my first coffee I decide it’s time to go downstairs. “Morning girls.” I say when I enter the kitchen were they are having breakfast. “Morning.” They both say. Abigail gives me her morning kiss but Susen doesn’t even looks at me. I think last night made her bring back all the memories of her childhood. I need to talk with her. The girls are out for shopping and Micheal is over at a friend when Chuck and I drive to the airport to pick up John and Kem with their son. It’s been years since I’ve seen him. And now I think of it I missed him sometimes. The flight is delayed for 2 hours so we have to wait and stick around at the airport, we decide to go shopping and then eat something. In the tiny little restaurant my thoughts fade off to Susen. I really don’t hope this will bring her were Abby was years ago. She can’t handle that, just like her mom. After 2 hours of waiting I finally see John walking over to us followed by Kem and their 17-year old son. “Susan, you look great!” John says and we hug and kiss. In the car he asks me tons of questions about County and I tell him we can stop by the next day and visit them. “So what are you going to tell her John?” I ask him. “I don’t know Susan. It’s difficult I think. I need to see her first before I start telling about Abby.” John says. “Well she looks exactly like Abby, not only from the outside.” I tell him in the hope he understand what I mean. “So I have to play this nice and easy.” He says. “Yeah nice and easy.” I say. I show them their room and leave them alone to prepare dinner. Abigail walks in and I can see something is wrong. “Gail? What’s going on?” I ask her when I see the look in her eyes. “We went to aunt Abby her grave, at least we thought we went there. There isn’t a graveside mom.” Abigail says. I swallow not knowing how I’m going to cover this one up. In all these years the secret was safe, we played it like we planned and now all the sudden Susen is tearing it apart. I sigh and take a seat. “How do mean Gail?” I ask her. “Well we walked across the whole graveyard but no A. Kovac or A. Lockhart or A. Wyzcenski was there. And now Susen is really upset and I lost track of her when she started running away from me. Mom this isn’t good.” Abigail shivers. “She’ll be back Abs. Just let her be for a while.” I say and I take her close to my chest. I need to talk with John in private. When Susen isn’t back during dinner Chuck, Abigail and Kem start searching for her. Carter said he stayed with me for if she came back and was angry or hurt. Good cover up John. “Susan we need to tell the true. We can’t hide it any longer.” He says when we know nobody can hear us. “I know but how am I going to tell her that her mom didn’t die. How do I tell her, her mom is alive and living just a few hours away from us. How John? How?” I say and shake my head. It’s impossible. This lie went way out of line. “We have to Susan. And you need to contact Abby.” He says and swallows. “God. I haven’t talked with her in years John you know that. What if she has a whole new life, a new family? Susen can’t handle that John she really can’t.” I say. “First we find Abby and then will have to talk with Susen, if she comes back.” He says. That last line bothers me the most. What if she really took of just like she said. “Right. I do have her phone number but I don’t know what to say.” I say and stare in the distance. How could I do this to Susen what the hell was I thinking when we made this up to protect Abby. Good old Abby hiding away in a tiny apartment downtown in …. When we made this pact with the three of us none of us was expecting that Luka would die and that Susen would be alone. When he did die Carter was already in Paris and I didn’t dare to contact Abby so I took Susen in house and cared for her, played her mom while I knew her own mom was in good health. I hate myself so much right now but I can’t turn it back. It’s weird that even Chuck never noticed a thing, even down in the ER when we came there with Abby he didn’t notice that John took her upstairs instead of downstairs. He didn’t notice that there was no grave-stone on her grave, he didn’t notice that she was breathing when I preformed CPR, he didn’t saw the letters she send the first couple of months. He didn’t even noticed that Abby was at her own funeral. Yes, she was there. It’s midnight when John and I decided that we will find Abby tomorrow and then we’ll talk about. They others are back, they didn’t find her. I tried her sell-phone but it’s off. I can’t sleep so I stay on the couch watching commercials. When I’m almost out I hear the front door open. “Susen?” I say. “Aunt Susan I’m sorry.” She says. I open my arms and I do what I did all these years, comfort her. “I’m sorry too baby.” I whisper. She cries and says she’s missing her mom so much that she could die from loneliness, she asks why there is no grave of her mom at the grave-yard and I sigh and just tell her that must look better next time cause it needs to be there. Again I lie to her.

Thanks!!!! I'm glad you like it! As we meet again. We told Chuck and Kem that we were going to visit old staff members and that we won’t be back for dinner. They agreed thank god and Kem is going to prepare dinner with Chuck as Abigail and Susen going to give Paul a tour through the city. “Are you sure were doing the right thing John?” I ask them when we pass Abby her tiny apartment. “We need to Susan.” He says and parks the car. We both take a deep breath before we get out of the car. I want to open my door but when I look in the mirror I see her. She looks good and healthy. “Carter look in your mirror.” I whisper. “You can talk out loud Susan she can’t hear you.” He says and looks over his shoulder to look back at me within 2 seconds. “God it’s her.” John says. “I know. What now?” I ask him when I look in my mirror again. She’s still standing there searching through her handbag. “We just go to her.” John says and opens his door. I take one more look in the mirror and tell myself this is the best we can do. I stay still while John walks up to her. “Sorry can I help you?” I hear Abby say, her voice hasn’t changed a bit. “Maybe.” John says back and looks quickly at me. “Well tell me who your looking for.” Abby says and looks at whatever John is looking at. Our eyes meet and she holds still. “No.” Abby says and grabs herself onto the railing of the stairs. “Abby. We need to talk.” John says as he grabs her left arm to hold her. “No. This can’t be happening.” Abby says while tears are running down her face. “Abby?” I say with a weak voice when I walk towards her. “Suz, I can’t do this. I know why you’re here I think.” She says and wipes some hair out of her face. “Let’s go inside Abby, we really need to talk.” John says. Abby opens up the door and we follow her inside. “It’s not much.” Abby says when she opens the door to her apartment. I know it’s not much I bought the place! “Why are you two down here? Something happened with Luka or Susen?” Abby asks me as she looks in my eyes. “Sit down first Abby.” John says while Abby is passing through the room. “Right. So tell me the bad news.” She says when she takes a seat on her grey sofa. “Abby, Luka died some months after you left.” I say. “God. What about Susen? Is she ok?” She asks, not one word about Luka his death! “Yes, I took her back to Chicago and she lived with us all these years. But Abby she’s 18 now and looking for answers. Yesterday she was at the graveyard to visit your grave but found out there wasn’t one. I really don’t know what to tell her all I know is that that girl deserves the truth. I can’t hide this any longer.” I blur out. Abby looks at me with those light hazel eyes I meet every day in the eyes of her child. “No.” Abby says and shakes her head. “Come on Abby. Don’t you miss her? Don’t you miss live?” John says as he looks through the apartment, grey and empty. “I do miss her. Every day I wonder how she would look like and how she would be. Every single day since that day my heart is wanting for her, wanting for you too Susan. You really don’t want to know in what a mess I live. This is not a place to have a child.” She says and cries at the same time. I do what I’ve done before I hold her and let her feel that I still care for her. “Abby I missed you too. Every day I hoped that you would consider to stop hiding and ring my doorbell so this nightmare was over. And now Susen is asking all these questions I just can’t take it any more. It really has to end.” I say to her when I hold her head in my hands. “How, how did you had this in mind Susan? You want to just tell her that I didn’t die and that I was just a couple of hours away from her all these years?” Abby says when she stops crying. “I don’t know how but I know we need to tell her.” I say, it’s true I really don’t know how I need to tell Susen that her mom is still alive. “Maybe you can tell that a lost soul is coming to visit?” Abby suggest. “And then? She will be so upset, mad whatever.” I say. Then John opens up his mouth. “Well she’s celebrating her birthday tomorrow. Maybe if we don’t say a word and Abby just rings the bell. Then Abby just tells her that it was protection shield from the police and that she missed her and that she loves her. Then nobody has to know what really is right or wrong.” John says. I think deeply, would that be a good plan or not? Maybe. “It sounds better then just bring her with us now and say to Susen look this is your mom. Surprise!” I say. “I think it’s a good idea John.” Abby says and smiles. “Fine. What time will the big entrance be?” I ask her. “Bout eight?” She says. “Sounds fine.” I say and then it’s silence. We all feel what we need to feel. Quilt. We chat longer and Abby tells us she’s in fact working a couple of blocks from our home and has worked across County in the wall-mart. I’m stunned that I’ve never seen her nor Chuck. She asked all the possible questions you can think of and after 8 hours of talking I had enough. “Abby we need to now. Chuck will wonder were I am.” I say when I still hold her hand. “Yeah sure. I’ll see you tomorrow.” She says and squeezes my hand. We kiss each other and say goodbye again. “That was weird.” John says when he starts the engine. “Really weird. It’s like she’s never been gone. John I missed her so much!” I exclaim. “Me too Susan. She’s still good old Abby.
