I may be the only one, but I think the drinking thing could be a good storyline, i think it will show us the difference between how Carter delt with it (by nagging her about mettings, and trying to fix her) and how Luka is more understanding to her feelings How true!!! In terms of character developing...without minding the writers I'm just saying that she relapses when she hates her life or something close. I just don't want to see more unhappy luka

Correct me if am wrong...?! Per spoilers last week, Joe is 16 months old, so if they keep the timeline consistent, he has been gone for 4 months.

Well, five episodes in is going to take us from May to October, right? Five months alone with a baby, trying to finish a truly demanding year of residency with a creepy new boss, a newly wed hubby in another country with no set return date, father in law with a catastrophic injury, NEELA for a roomie, car accident, kid needing an MRI after a serious fall.....sheesh. I need a drink!
Maura wanted to do this story line. I know....she wanted Abby whacked as well...but maybe they gave her this so the other won't happen. And I don't think it will be Carter or Luka who come riding to her rescue. This time I think it will be the person who started her down this road. I think Eddie will return to really fix it for good. She has always felt abandoned, mistrustful of her relationships...and herSELF in a relationship. Maggie's issues aside, it's Eddie that left her alone to deal with that. Dang! I gotta pull that fan fic off the shelf and FINISH it!

Correct me if am wrong...?! If you think about it, she's been in a downward spiral most of season 13. She had a premature baby and hysterectomy. They did not know if baby Joe would even survive. When all that was said and done, her significant other was harbouring secrets from her, which ended with her significant other being kidnapped and almost killed. Then, TPTB gives us some hope, lets them be happy for 5 mins, they thought everything was peachy, her new husband has to leave to a foreign country, leaving her to be a full time doctor and mom. If anyone has a reason to drink, I think Abby does.

More a nervous breakdown then a drinking styoryline... don't get me wrong, Maura will do a terrific job, as she knows her character better than anyone... but drinking again, for Abby ? She is a strong person now than she was four/ five years ago... people drink in front of her and she goes to bars... she changed too: she's now a mother and a wife... yes, she went through h#ll and back in season 13 ( Joe's birth, Luka's kidnnaping, Eddy... ) but she didn't drink then, why she has to drink now ? Pressure ? She can handle... back in season 10, she was a nurse and a med student... Single mother ( for a few months ) ? If she and Luka were divorced, she was going to be a single mother too... New boss ? Yes, he is a pain in the @ss, but so was Weaver and Romano... Great TPTB... people don't want to have this again... Dani

Like I said, UNLESS the script say so, I'll believe on the contrary... Yes, I know that ER is Drama on TV... and yes, Abby is a alcoholic... in season 13 she says that to Luka ( in episode 7 if I'm not mistaken... ) but you have to agree it's not the thing she will drink for... or everytime she feels pressure, she will drink ? Or everytime Luka isn't with she will drink ? Come on, this is Abby... she's a strong person, not some looser... Dani An alcoholic is always in danger for a relapse, no matter what. I know for true because one member of my family is an alcoholic (my father). Dealing with alcoholism is a daily struggle and in circumstances full of pressure and tiredness, its likely to relapse. I have said before and I'll keep saying that ABBY LOCKHART is one of the most REAL characters on TV and because of that it's entirely possible for David Zabel to be eager to explore that in Abby's new life with Luka and Joe. Besides as MT said once she'll love to do it again, to play drunk Abby. Personally, I'd hate to see her relapsing because all she has been through in the past but I'm a single mother, and for the last 11 years sometimes I have to confess I've had a couple of drinks because depression or because I thought that was the only way to relax and keep going, if that makes me a bad mother, well... life is HARD and sometimes people feel weak, we're all humans beings full of asserts and mistakes. **Viviana**

Sorry about you father... and no, I don't have anything against people who are alcoholic or drug attidict or something... ( I was angry on that post in page 2... )
Vi, no, you're not a bad mother for that ( not a weak person for that... I think that's why a drunk Abby isn't the best storyline for the next season... ) like I said, she's a strong person, who doesn't need that now because of Joe and Luka )... it's a relapse yes, ( I didn't said it wasn't... ), but it's wrong of TPTB do that now...
Why ? like I said in my last post... the pressure, being a single mom ( only for a few months ). etc. don't explian the relapse...

I still don't think this whole relapse makes much sense. Yeah she's going through a tough time right now, but she's been through much worse and she didn't resort to drinking. In early season thirteen her life REALLY sucked and she made it through ok. I understand that it is realistic, but I was really hoping the writers wouldn't go there. It just erases all her progress and now she has to start over. It doesn't interest me as a viewer and a luby fan. We will probably get some good acting and maybe if things turn out happy for L/A it will all be worth it, but I am still angry.

Why did her life suck in early season 13?? Joe was in the hospital but she had Luka and Maggie there for support. Decisions were being made together. She was loving life in the relationship and as a new mom. Her life didn't suck much at all compared to the pressures of what we are reading about season 14. I applaud all single moms who are making it in this world. I have a partner to carry half the load. Abby's partner is basically not there. Getting up...getting the kid to day care...functioning at work...getting groceries...picking the kid up at daycare....fixing dinner....get the oil changed in the car....laundry.....putting the kid to bed....paying bills...cleaning house..... Throw in a sick kid or a car accident?? Again, I need a drink!

As a pre-teen she's making trouble... doesn't want to eat, doesn't want to study, doesn't want to sleep, only wants to be on the phone... with her friends.... talking and talking of what they've done at school. Anyway, Abby has faced motherhood WITH Luka, which is so much better than facing it alone, pressure and stress are 2 powerful things sometimes. **Viviana**

Larue, I was just referring to the whole crisis with Joe and not knowing whether he was going to make it, and also the hysterectomy she had. That was very hard on her physically and emotionally. IMO things were worse for her then than they are now.
I give much respect to all the single moms out there also. My mom raised me and my sister by herself, and it was definitely not easy. I've grown up in a family full of single moms so I understand how hard it can be. Some of their situations are a lot worse than Abby's right now, and they are not boozing it up. It's not like Luka has deserted her for good. He IS coming back. He should be able to go and take care of his father without worrying about Abby hitting the sauce back home. I thought that the writers had written her as way stronger than this. I guess I just don't understand the nature of an alcoholic. Maybe this storyline will open my eyes to some things.

Throw in a sick kid or a car accident?? Again, I need a drink! Fixing dinner... Neela does that... Oil in the car... she just have to go to the mecanic... he changes it... Laundry... again Neela Cleaning the house ? Go to the bank to pay the biils ? Ok, Neela's recovering, but she may help a little... and in episode 3 or 4, doesn't Neela is with Joe and Dubenko goes to visit her and play with him ? Again, Abby doesn't gett all the pressure we are wondering... at work, maybe... but like I said, she passed through a lot worse... these aren't excuse for her to drink again... And about Joe's injuries... it's a reason for her NOT TO drink... Dani
